Title: PE400 Engine Number
Post by: rohan on August 18, 2010, 05:45:47 pm

I am having my poor old PE400 engine (see below) split and rebuilt at the moment and I need to confirm the engine is from a 1980 PE400T as the rest of the bike is.
The Engine number is 102872 and the frame number is 102974.
For the record are there any differences between the 1981 PE400 engine and the 80? I.e. will the crank and big end bearings be the same anyway?

Pe 400 motors 1980 -81 are the same .....just remember to use C 3  bearings. Pay particular attention to worn clutch fingers as they tend to wear ( groove )
Have a good look at crank keyway primary drive ...... check for wear on gears .
Put a seadoo Hot rod  H 8117  in it.  ;)

I havent got the 82 parts book but if you ask Luke he can look in there and see what the first engine number is for the 82 model. As oldfart says, everything is compatiple between all 3 models.

Engine numbers did not match from the factory.

going on that you'd say it is the engine from the bike most of mine are 101 or 102 prefix and they are the same prefix as the frame you just go on that they can be 100's of digits out but if the prefix is the same it is likely to be the same motor it came from the factory with and it does have the bash plate right that means that it is 1980.

You would have to ask GMC but I think around $600 mark. :)
