Title: PE 400 Magneto/ignition Coil resistances
Post by: chris on August 17, 2010, 07:30:25 pm
Hi All,

Firstly, i'm new to the forum - it's great to see an Australian Based website on VMX and Vinduro.

Has anyone got any information on the expected resistances in the magneto coils/ignition coil?

Trying to find out whether mine have had it or not.

I located some data on the PE 175 as i read somewhere that the CDI systems across the PE range were all similar?

If they have had it we're going to try to rewind them ourselves.

Any help would be much appreciated.

HT coil resistance - B/W to W/BL : 0-1Ohm & Plug cap to  B/W : 10-11KOhm
Primary/Pulsar coils resistances - B/R to B/W : approx. 195 - 245Ohm & R/W to B/R : approx. 35 - 45Ohm

if you got ignition probs it will most likey be the primary coil or CDI.

On PE forum theres more info.

Thanks very much for your replies guys - it's much appreciated.

I had a check of the coils tonight, both the stator, pulser and ignition and all the resistances check out.

When i troubleshooted the CDI I couldnt get anything that the owner manual said i would

I was getting a resistance of about 455ohm in connections that were meant to be "ON" i assume that means no resistance? and "CON" would have very little resistance.

The terminals that were meant to have 2Mohm resistance had about 700kohm.

I'm thinking that my CDI is cactus, though I'm due for a new ignition coil as the lead is all but snapped off and I be losing a lot of spark through that.

It is extremely rare for the CDI to fail. Do let us know the final outcome.
