Post by: Mr Aussie on August 14, 2010, 04:32:59 pm
Does anyone know what honda made the crankcases out of
Are they a Standard Alloy or a Magnesium Alloy
I have a small crack i want to seal up and dont want to weld it if it is Magnesium

center cases are alloy and most clutch covers on the 80 are alloy to i think its only the aircooled 80 that had a mag clutch cover

I haven't known of any production center cases that were Mag.

And if any outer cases are magnesium, they often have it cast in 'magnesium' so you know. CR80 will be Alumimnium for sure.

Make sure you put a piece of Stainless behind the hole to help.

Well i got the TIG warmed up today
Prepared the case
Pre-heated it
and welded it
Came up a treat
After grinding it back and finishing it off with a linisher and some emery tape
you would never know
It was a piece of cake
