Post by: SAABCOMBI on August 08, 2010, 09:20:43 am

There out there somewhere Dave. Tucked up in bed stored away in sheds possible restored  never seeing the light of day. Never being shared with others. Do you reckon there would be enough interest to get a VMX Show happening perhaps via either CSC or VCM. raise a bit of money for charity. Similiar to what Firko did last year? Jerry

Good Question

Just does not seem to be any interest in this  brand of bike in the main stream of VMX or other old racing at all
Ossa sure sold a lot of Stiletto and Pioneer models as club level racers, never had that A grade winning rider to be up front with the other brands
Maybe thats part of the problem only remembered as a middle of the pack club racer so they must be spanish crap
Are they in sheds or landfill when years ago know one wanted anything to do with this brand
Over here in the West I was a CZ nut about 1999 had 9 Ossa for sale in the VMX club newsletter for 2yrs at $2500 the lot not one enquiry that's how my Ossa racing started no one else wanted to be involved restoring them
Even now only one other Ossa racing in VMX here in the West
Anybody that rides a Phantom for the 1st time  goes WOW bloody good mousetrap what happen never seen any out on the track
Cheers

Years ago l ran vintage race meetings at the Barwon Park Mansion, to raise money for the make a wish foundation for Kids with Cancer we got a lot of vintage bikes and riders and bikes on show at those meetings, l have allways felt that if the two clubs can come to gether for one meeting a year to raise money for a foundation then that meeting would grow with strenght every year, and you would also find that other governing bodies would get involved.
Steve Cramer in 1972 raced an Ossa Stiletto, went quite well on it. When l was racing there was only 2-Phantom being eaced in 1974,thats all l saw.
OR a show and shine at Portarlington Overlooking the Pier and the bay, or Queenscliff, this area is just picturesque.

Most of the stuff here in Oz was trail, enduro (pioneers )and plonkas, the phantoms were actually quite rare. I have '73 SDR I'm restoring.

Roger
Your spot on the bulk of Ossa sold were orange colour Pioneer models 4/5 speed, the other Ossa racing in VMXWA is a Pioneer found as a complete unrestored bike running all std run gear down to the IRZ carby.
Still the point is Ossa just never had the competitors loyalty

Good to know another restored SDR is on the way

Johnny O, l am not sure where you live, but l do know of a very nice fellow that live on the borer that has one, needs restoring.

I think it would be good to have a charity show and shine racing meeting. within a country town that doesn`t see or have a lot of people stopping, and l have just the place, New stead trotting track. vic

My copy of Ossa Gura Phil Young winning bike
Phil recently had a stroke on his good side and was laid up for a while. He's still a bit wonky (wonkier) but he's on the mend and back sending silly email jokes. Anyone who knows Phil will know just what a sweet man he is and how inspirational he is considering he only has half a brain. Nobody knows OSSAs better than the old fella and I have to admit that your bike looks remarkably like Youngys bike. Incidentally, the bones of his road race/dirt track bike started as a rusty old Phantom I found on the tip many years ago and donated to the cause.

Phil is a true OSSA wonder his roadracer had 43hp at the rear wheel rightup there with the factory OSSA GP bikes

Have heard that the 250cc dirtracker was as fast as most open class bikes

1969 OSSA 250cc pioneer. As you can see this is a project bike. The motor turns over with strong compresion. I spray some starting fluid in the carb and she fired up very easliy. The tank has many repairs, but somehow still holds fuel. Matching frame and motor numbers. Please call or e-mail for more info. Thanks Phil 585-298-1959 Price $400

That would be rare if it was built in 1971! it does look like an early superpioneer, I have a later one one with lower rear suspension mounts.
