Yep, it's the ugliest bike that Rickman ever made* but it's a nice example anyway. It shouts out "Look at me World, I'm different" with a gay Anglo/Spanish accent.

*And because of that I've got a Rickman Monty frame for sale if anyone is interested.

why would anyone bought a rickman montesa, and disregard a VR montesa. The VR was a 100% better bike all round.

I think your all being a bit harsh. That bike has feelings you know! Having said that it got me thinking. What is the ugliest bike ever made? Something that is truly offensive to the eye. DKW's with leading link forks maybe. Anything after 1985 maybe? Jerry

A few years back we did a vintage 250 shootout session for ADB which never went to print due to photo problems*. During that test we got to ride both the VR Cappra and the Rickman Monty with the very same engine. At that time I didn't have my fondness for aftermarket framed bikes so I went into it with the same attitude as Dave. I thought the Rickman was a dated, funny looking thing. Riding it sure changed my mind though. The Rickman was a better balanced bike and despite it's humungous steel tank was noticably lighter (VR Cappra 213 lbs...Rickman Monty 198lbs). I remember GE starting the test hating the Rickman but finishing the day placing it second to the OSSA Phantom. I didn't place it that high but loved it anyway.

*We redid the shootout a few months later but because the Rickman had been sold, it missed out the second time.

l do agree with that comment mark, l alway believed that the 68-69 greeves 250, 360 griffon, QBE, where ugly, until l rode one, it was as fast as other makes, handled very well, and quiet light. remember the story about the ugly duckling, this model greeves fits that story.
