Yep Hoony,
i have forgotten all about those races.
-
Good stuff, Billett.
When did they stop using Scaresdale?
-
Who is #15?
#83 is either John Orchard or Lindsay Trotter from Frankston - depending on what year it is.
-
bloody hell Moto your memory is sharp !
# 15 could possibly be Ian Crompton ???

Yer so is yours , never thought of Ian . sure looks like his physique.
Those guys are easy to remember , had some good battles with Lindsay.

Laine Thomas from the back then Melton club. The model of his RM is all that could tell us what year it was, 82/83?

Not sure Tony, but i believe it is now protected by a shotgun. Allthings 414 might be able to shed some light on when it shut down.

Nup its buggered, some long term stuff survived in the archive, the rest of the hard disc and especially the Ram has crashed over the last few years more times than Paris Hilton has been dished up a pork sword !

Yes that was Diamond Valleys Newtown track.
Did Melton club hire it for a club day Pete?
I don't remember the event pictured, I went to nearly every club day DVMCC had there.
Thanks Pete for many more good pics and memories

I was out at the track only recently and if you are a greeny then you would be happy to know that mother nature has recovered from the hard work we put in to make that track back in the 70s >:(.
The bush there is now so thick that i had trouble finding the track at all.Its all basically gone but we still have the memories ;D.

Not sure when it shut down. Not long after those pics were taken I'd say (I imagine it shut in about '83).
A mate of mine (ex motocrosser) who was a boss for the shire that the land fell under went out to have a look at it about five years ago. The current owner found him having a peek and just about escorted him off with a shot-gun. He came out with some story about shire business and why he was there. Apparently the owners were none too happy that the area had ever been 'traumatised' by such an activity..... :-\

Hi Geoff,
the Melton club may have been invited there by the Braybrook club as they used to share some meetings. Peter.

I loved the newtown track back in the 70`s.

That would explain why I couldn't see the track from Google earth a while back.
I was sure that quartz and clay would have been visible from the moon but I couldn't make anything out at all.
Spent some time searching for Owen Park on Google Earth as well but it wasn't visible either.
The club ran a vic title there in 83 or 84, 500's I think.
The track was still in use in the early 90's, I think we sold it around mid 90's.
I have some pathetic "race cam" footage of a lap of the track I will put up one day.
-
83 looks like john orchard
i would have picked 15 for ian crompton too :-\
that was a cool track to race at 8)

sounds about right, i remember pitting next to Leisky/Gary Benn when he was in Team Honda on a CR480 in about 1983.

Yeah, I remember that meeting as I was the ACU steward that day. One of only three meetings that I agreed to do before I realised I couldn't put up with some riders and parents bullshit and would probably clock someone if I didn't give it away. Anyway I remember Vaughan Style there as well. I also remember as you would Hoony, helping to push Gary Benn in the team Honda van out of the pits when he got bogged. Great meeting Leisky was awesome.

I think we only ran the one open event at Newtown.
Too many fees and too far from Melbourne to attract paying spectators.
We ran heaps of club day MX events as well as many Pony Express events over many years.
I bought my SLR camera in late 84 in readiness to go to the states in 85. Dave Hammond was praticing on his bike for the same trip so I was out with him practising with my camera.
The twin berms and the far end of the track which were followed by a small double

Around 1990 we went up there for a mid week practice
