Like I have stated in my introduction I'm also busy with a 1884 Montesa H7 360 that I bought as a real stinker. Here follows some photo's of what I bought and how things are progressing. Final product will be a Cappra replica as we do not have any Vinduro events in the VMX series in South Africa as yet. (Sorry about the quality of some of the photo's. Cellphone is not so forgiving)
What I bought for around $600

Everything stripped down. Man they abused this bike. Especially the frame. Needed a lot of welding work to close all the extra holes drilled for DIY mods.

The motor still looks pretty good and I will only need to change rings on it for now

Received some of the parts back from the coaters this week. Should have some more bits back from the platers coming week and my 1L of bronze/gold 2-pack paint.

Will update this post as and when I make progress.

I'm amazed that the motor survived at all with that 'factory' air cleaner assembly on it. ??? Well done DT. What sort of tank's going on it?
-
I will go with an original H7 tank I think. Looks close enough to the Cappra.
-
Oh and I also have a guy building me a sectional expansion box from s/steel!!! It's going to look awsome!
-
Yeah. They look ok with the H7 tank. ;)

Looks very good Mr.414! Like the expansion box.
This is what I'm after as a final result. Some minor changes on the detail. Obvious one will be the H7 tank and the "works" look expansion box. This pic was also posted here on OzVMX.

Got all my bling bits back yesterday! Rims also went in for polishing yesterday. Instructions are to be as shiny as is humanly possible! Should have a full rolling chassis by next week. Now for all the detail work and gold/bronze painting.

Back Ohlins refurbished and on the frame. Also bars on, but will have to modify the front brake mechanism as it will have to get a reservoir for the disk. Cellphone quality...

Wheels are on. Almost ready to put the motor back and then off to V-town to fit the exhaust.

Update: Engine is done and back in. Started after 3rd kick. Drive-train 100%. Couldn't find a caliper for love nor money so I used a Yamaha unit. Works with no mayor mods involved. And before you get into me about the filter, bought some aluminium sheet and will be shaping an airbox next weekend. Now of to V-town to get the expansion box fitted.

DT the bike is looking great you are doing an excellent job ;). You seem to have an excellent match for the fork colour. How did you match it?
With all the Monties after the VB series you need to be very careful of the chain tension. The picture shows the chain is very tight and when the swingarm gets horizontal it will either try and break the chain or destroy the gearbox countershaft bearing :'(. The outer edge of the chain tension roller should only be about 20mm from the swingarm. It looks very loose but if you sit on the bike and push the suspension down you will see what I mean. Just trying to help ;D
Keep up the great work. My H7 250 is really enjoyable to ride 8)
-
The colour was a bit of a problem and more luck then anything else. I downloaded as much high resolution photos as I could find for the Cappra and printed all. Then went to the paint shop and finally settled on "Old Gold 3", I think, from Dulux. Yeah chain is too tight, will remedy shortly.

Isn't the brake lever on the rear supposed to be on the top side?
-
Yes you are right. I have been shown the errors in my ways. I will correct soonest. Now with the actuating lever turned around, do the connecting rod run underneath the shock, between the 2 plates of the shock mount?
-
If the cable dosn't rub on the bottom of the shock too much,
I would think it would be ok. Normally it rides outside the shock
and wears on the swingarm :(
-
Some of mine run under the shock, some outside of it. Just depends on how much of a bend the actuating arm has I guess.
That bike is looking grouse DT. Matched that fork paint perfectly. That isn't some of Luis's (Solomontesa) paint is it?
I run a fair amount of slack in my chains. That swingarm pivot point/countershaft sprocket relationship eats up a lot of slack when the suspension's working. The slack adjuster actually touches the swingarm on the bikes that I ride to reduce the chances of what Jared descibes happening to the c/shaft bearing.
I'd be getting a rear sprocket with the holes in them. Monties look agricultural enough without a solid rear sprocket.... :P
Great job mate..... ;)

I dont understand why it has a front disc? I like the earlier motessa's but I'm confused?

The H7 360's had a disc front brake (well some anyhow).

OK never seen one before
