Does anyone know if any suzuki road bikes have a left switch block with hi/low/horn & lights on/off buttons in a metal housing and are fairly heavy duty? I dont really like the plastic PE/TS switch blocks so im looking for a metal one and something more durable maybe off a GS or GSX or maybe DR/SP600 from the 80's where the contacts wont burn out and the buttons wont break.

The t500 I used to have used alloy switchgear, pretty sure all the t & gt stuff is similar so a trip to a wrecker will provide what you want

The 1976 TS125A has Lights on/off switch, hi/low switch, Turn L/R switch and horn button in the LH alloy housing......... and NO KILL SWITCH!!!!!!

Right, i didnt think of the earlier TS switches. I was only thinking of the 79 onwards plastic ones. Now i just gotta find one but i prefer NOS. Thanks for suggestions so far. Not sure it would take 100w + but maybe i could change the contacts?

They are hefty little things. It would definately take the wattage.

I reckon if i ran thicker wires to it then it could be right. Ive never really looked at these suzuki switch contacts in detail to see how heavy duty they would be. Thats why i was thinking the road bike ones might be a bit different as they have alternators that are several 100 watts. I looked at some aftermarket ones but they were only rated for 6-7 amps at most so not much point there. Im also considering a 80's type yamaha TT/XT/DT type switch which is also metal. I considered a relay but i cant do that with AC and ive never heard of 12 volt AC relays.

The TS125A, or similar, switch blocks should be "heavy duty" as they are from 6 volt bikes so the wiring should easily suit the current for you application if you are, as I guess, using 12 volt bits 'n pieces. Most road bikes as well as trail bikes have a regulator to make sure that the voltage does'nt vary much from the 12 volt standard so... most switch blocks should work for your application.

Well at a guess/rough calulations there is about 40 watts from a TS185A light coil which at 6 volts is 6.6amps so if it was converted to 12volts it could take 80 watts at 6.6 amps. I would run thicker wire anyway, none of the switches have thick enough wire for over 100watts of lighting. I would say that suzuki did not run the switches on the limit of their rating so i reckon they could take 8 amps and if i run thicker wire i will gamble on it handling more and not getting voltage drop across the contacts. I will be able to measure at the light socket to see if im getting 14 or volts which would mean its ok.
I bought this one so far off a 84 ALT quad which looks pretty neat but has no horn, has yellow buttons though 8). Im Not really sure if the case is metal or not. I will just buy a few and see whats best.

I also been looking at GT500/750 switches which are black but i reckon suzuki probably used the same contacts anyway. Im going to look for a 76-78 TS 185/250/400 switch.
