don't know about you 2 blokes but fork have i stacked on some weight the last 4 weeks, i am now offically a pork-a-saurus weighed in this morning at 96kg and those that know me i ain't too tall.

if i had any old riding gear from the day it would not fit now. i might try the old speedway leathers on one day to get me motivated to lose some Kgs

hilly i think you need a bigger engine in that 250 . mabee you can get a engine from work something like a catapiller  deisel  twin turbo
slow and steady moves the heavy object ;) ;) ;)

Title: Re: Next Project YZ250J
Post by: yzhilly on January 01, 2008, 06:31:58 pm
yes i realise that when i had my original YZ250J i was some 30 kgs lighter and i seem to remember it had heaps of grunt so at my current playing weight I'm gonna need some mumbo to move this fat arse but then i was'nt worried about falling off so i think the 250 will be just nice for mx .

Don't tell me the 250 has the same poxy setup as the 125.  Caps has got one of those too.  He says his doesn't leak.  I reckon they all leak if they have been used for a while.
Hope everyone had a good chrissy and new year.  Good to see I am not the only one that gained a few kilos over the break.
Looking forward to some updates on the project DJ style Hilly.  Are you going to strip her right down or jsut tart her up a bit ??

Cheers

Yeah, as far as I know it's all good at his son's place.  Only trouble is he is going to move on the 20something of January.  I will be in Brisbane around then, so it could be tight.  Will a 125H fit in the back of a hired commodore station wagon ??  I might have to get someone to collect and store it for me for a few days.  That would make it 4 garages before it gets to my mates place.

For the record I put on 4 kilos over the break.  Gave up smoking cigars yesterday too, so by the time CD5 comes around I will have passed you I reckon  ;D ;D ;D.

Have been working on the 250 and It's looking pretty good so far.  Also ditched the boost bottle on the 125H/J.  I'm really hoping the spare carb on that one you collected has the standard jets in it.  Would save me a few bucks anyway.

Sorry mate nearly hijacked your thread then.  I don't think you are the type to get cranky about that sort of thing anyway.

Have you sussed out what the go is with Juniors at CD5.  What about camping.  Haven't seen a whole lot of info on that side of things (But I haven't looked too hard yet either ::))
Title: Re: Next Project YZ250J
Post by: yzhilly on January 03, 2008, 12:04:30 pm
No juniors , And i'm camping at the track ,there will be somewhere for you crash (sleep) if you want and there will be plenty of bikes if you want to ride , we can sort out details closer to it . The 125 will pull apart easily enough if you have to fit it in the hire wagon ,i pulled the wheels off and stuck it in the back of my 80 series toyota . if you pull the forks and handle bars it will go in.The swingarm bolt is siezed in the spacers so it will take a bit of getting out.

Post by: YZ250H on January 03, 2008, 01:02:36 pm
No worries thanks for the tip mate.  I'll be sure to take some tools to GMC's son's place.
The swingarm bolt will just be another to add to the list of many challenges these bikes have given me so far.
I'll be camping at the track too.  I should be able to cater mostly for myself as far as sleeping goes.  I will sort myself out and may take you up on your offer of assistance.
Take it easy

Cool project Hilly, it will be good to catch up with ya at CD-5. We are hoping to stay at the track, no point in driving away from a perfectly good beer drinking session ;D ;D. Will we see the 250J at CD-5? I have been talking to the airlines about getting the bike over there and its going to cost about $600 plus what customs want at you end. (any heads up on what they charge, anyone?). I had a bit of a hick-up with the bike I'm building up, the coil mount on the frame must have been moved to the other side of the frame and I havnt picked it up and now the frame is powercoated and finished. :'( I have had to cut the coil mount off and weld it onto the other side :'(, So now I have to repair the the frame. ::)

Keep us posted on the YZ250J ;D

Hey DJ yeah we will have a beer or 2 ,i hope to have it goin for CD5 ,the frame has been painted and a few alloy bits polished up so i'm just goin to build a nice engine and a bit of suspension tidy up and that will be her it wont be a show bike just a rider.

I only build riders Hilly, I dont see the point in having a show bike, I just couldnt build a bike and not ride it, it just doesnt seem right ;) ;D ;D

DJR - do you intend taking the bike back to Kiwi land (hope I haven't missed something here) - if so Customs may let you pay a bond and a fill in a stat declaration which when you take it back you get back?

Rossco, I hope to leave the bike over there for a couple of years so I can have a cuople of rides each year and hopefully do CD-6 and CD-7 ;D, of course the bike would have to be started every so often and maybe even taken through the gears ;D.
I know TMB is very keen to do the NATs in Tassie this year so that could be the next trip but the cost will be a factor ::). Me and bill were having a joke the other day and said we should offer our services as VMX bike transporters if the guys had there bikes ready we could drive down from Cairns picking up bikes on the way in a big truck. The riders could fly down and meet up with there bikes in Tassie, race and then we drive all the way back dropping bikes off as we go. Of course we would expect free transporting for our own bikes and a free crossing of the water ;) :D ;D ;D........... Whos got the big truck ;) :D ;D

All my YZ's are yellow Tony, but yes you are right in what you say. The YZ250J is an import.

Ah, very cool!
I remember thinking in 1981 how cool it would be to swap my YZ125H plastics with someone in the U.S.
I would get an American bike and he would get a "Euro" version.
Never did it of course................  :-\

Correct Tony.  NZ plastic tanked YZ's were/are all white (exception was only X,B,A)

I'm running short of cash at the moment and i really want my 250J goin so i rifled through my boxes and picked out all the really good bits to rebuild a good engine when i get some spare cash and i slapped a engine together with no new bits at all ,i've even recycled a beat up powervalve and piston .I was gonna take photo's of it but i'm a bit embarrased at what i put in it hopefully have it running on the weekend and then i will post some more pics .

Post by: Nathan S on February 15, 2008, 08:58:36 pm
Hilly, I've still got some of your bits: Swing-arm, top triple clamp, and that sort of stuff - nothing ground breaking. And you're welcome to the seat and tank too, 'cause they don't fit the IT-J.

Let me know if you want anything posted down, or you can pick-up on your way to CD5.

Thanks Caps if you have a old one that would be good as i wont be buying any new bits for it just yet . I did a bit of tuning & dyno testing last night and got a bit more grunt out of it and i liked riding it so i'm keen to get goin good and handling better .It felt nice and light and it was good having a 2 stroke powerband kick in , good fun.

Hilly's YZ takes it's own life during the night. We awoke to find it had hung itself from the nearest tree using it's own tie-downs. We all gathered around to console Andrew....

Nice work boys it is actually a innovative bike stand utelising items found locally to make it easier to remove the front wheel and change the tyre . Oh and KB's supertrick tyre levers also helped.
