Title: bully cases
Post by: YUMASTEPSIDE on July 16, 2010, 12:02:23 pm
Does anyone have an empty set of pursang or matador cases that I can borrow to set up a left hand gear change conversion with ??
I'm going to start by converting my Mk5 Matador motor..........I know this is Bultaco sacrilege but I'm getting too old to go back to right hand gears.
The cases would not be damaged or modified, I just need to line up the gear lever holes with my outer cases for proper alignment of holes without having to completely strip down my running motor  .

                       Roger

P.S.    also looking for a motor to put in my '74 250 pursang frame for dirttrack.

Roger,
You will have to strip your motor, you will need to manufacture a bush to weld to the left hand case inside or outside  to support the gearstick shaft and the bush will need to include a recess to house a gearstick seal for the lhs case.
As for lining up the shaft ,the existing hole(where the rhs gearstick stub goes into) on the rhs case would be the best guide.you would have to drill it out,and continue it through to the other sidecase to get the correct alignment.
I am not sure if you need to weld a bush to the inside of the rhs case to hold the O ring on the new long gearstick shaft that stops oil transfer between the clutch and gearbox.
The conversion you are attempting is fairly easy for someone with the right equipment. It needs the engine pulled apart to make sure the points mentioned above happen and every everything lines up correctly, otherwise you could end up with a set of cases in the bin.

Thanks Moto,I'm not being rude, but I've done them in the past and its just that at the moment I don't want to strip down my matador motor.........yet!

No worries,
i just didn't want you to get in over your head if you hadn't attempted this type of thing before.
            Cheers.
