Sitting in the sunshine of the Harz Mountains in Germany right now, it is amazing how many flags are flying. It is almost as ridiculous as Australians going ape over some 12 metre boats a while back.

and it is true, they do have a sense of humour. Just not YOUR kind of humour.
as to the war(s), Germans are rather more aware of these things than you giuve them credit for.
