Title: Frame differences 72 to 73
Post by: Gippslander on June 28, 2010, 06:47:50 pm
Frame question
Hi, I'm new here, have a 72 yellow tanker 250 -- with updated ignition and a mikuni -- apart from that pretty standard -- have been told a 73 frame with the 74 swingarm is a good way to go.
So is my frame the same as the 73?
If so will my 72 with a 74 swing arm be an improvment?
Thanks in advance

Thanks Jim,
My 72 is a neat bike -- just gets around really well and doesn't surprise by getting mixed up -- probably something to do with it being a 250 -- but I'm always looking for a bit more without creating reliability problems -- and if my frame is the same as a 73 I might try to pick up a 74 swing arm (or get GMC to make one) just to have a go at getting better.

Yeh the 71/73 black frames are the same fitting the stronger later 74 arm is the hot setup stops the CZ rear kicking sideways or known as the CZ hop
Few parts needed
74 long axle
New s/arm pivot bolt plus bushes
Rear wheel inner spacer longer on the brake plate side 74
rear wheel chain adj ??
Also a Falta arm can be used just have to move the shock mounts back to 74 specs

Cheers

I can recommend the '74 swing arm in the '71-'73 frame. You can grab the early arm and literally twist the rear end. This causes the famed 'CZ hop'. In '74 they moved the steering head forward which puts less weight on the front wheel = poor turning.
As '74 swing arms are rarer than whatever, I use and recommend a GMC chrome moly arm. Expensive but they make a huge difference, you feel so safe.
Cheers,
D.
