Title: Difference between XT and TT 500's
Post by: MX? on June 17, 2010, 06:26:06 pm
You'll have to pardon the ignorance, but what are the major differences between the two?
Would like to find something for VMX use.....but is it worth hanging out (and probably paying more) for a TT. Seems the TT's hold value better though...yes?

All the nusual things. No heavy lights, speedos and so on. Simpler wiring. Fewer tabs etc on the frame. No cush drive on rear hub, and I think a straight rear brake rod rather than the articulated thing. Depending on the model, some minor differences in suspension and so on. The F model TT is a nice one - slight engine changes for more power, box-section swingarms, great colour scheme.

I'd take a TT every time personally. But not hard to convert an XT I spose.

frames are basically the same after a bit of grinding, but I am with Graeme, if you are going to sink the money in then the TT is a better bet. As a VMX mount you will probably need to think about the suspension a bit....actually quite a bit.

all you need is a few modifications and they can go quite well

Yep, that IS nice. You know, there were a LOT of 500 Yammies at CD7. What a fine old bike they are. I must buy another one sometime.
