another one for Tony T maybe?
-
ive sent it to him ;)
-
should it have a disc brake front end?
-
Yeah it should have a disc brake. Wonder what the cylinder's like, think they were nikasil.
-
Yep, thanks fellas. I'm looking at it.
I sent a message asking about the front end and he then claimed it was an '83 model, which it clearly isn't. Just to be sure, I've asked whether it's got a flat slide carb and the twin coil setup as those are bits I need for mine.
My guess is that it is an '84 with a different front end for some reason.
And yes, they did have an electrofusion bore, so it would need to be sleeved. I would only want it for a few parts though, so that doesn't matter to me. Not sure if it's worth a grand though............ :-\
Anybody out there live in Deniliquin?
-
:o Someone paid $1500 for this one.
Maybe I am really out of touch as to what these things are worth, but I would have happily sold mine for that much 6 months ago, and I've got over $1000 worth of NOS parts with it. :-\
Good luck to them and I hope it turns out to be another one on the track.
-
Tony i bought that KX.. paid more than i wanted to but it's the ohlins shock that made it worth more to me. Found a new cylinder sleeve for it too, not sure if that's the way to go or re-plate the original.
-
At least we know it's gone to a good home. ;D
Yeah, I guess that shock makes a difference. Not to me cos if I end up keeping mine, I want it stock.
I would think sleeving is the way to go as you can't buy stock pistons for them any more.
I'll send you a pm.
-
maico 31....that was a very good buy...i noticed the ohlins shock on it last nite and thought who ever gets this for around a thousand bucks would be grining from ear to ear.....last time i priced one ohlins shock they were in the vicinity of around $1200 bucks.....congratulations :)
-
Well there you go. I never would have thought that one of those in bits, in unknown condition, would be worth that.
Good to know. ;D
-
good to see you have finally seen the light and gone green 8)forget those poxy maicos they dont start anyway ;D i have a sleeve in my 83 kx500 and it goes like a jet i think for what we do a steel sleeve is the go ;) remember john green means go and red (honda and maicos ) means stop ;D or cant start
it ran last time i started it ;D
-
Ha ha Rusty. Lets hope i can get it going in time to use it at the first race. What piston do you run in you KX?
-
i run genuine piston they are the best late model 500 pistons fit but they have a differant squish
the rings are interchangeable though 8)
it ran last time i started it ;D
