Title: News from Mother England.
Post by: firko on May 31, 2010, 10:01:56 am
I just got a call from Brian Clarke to tell me that his son Tony raced at round two of the British Classic Motocross Championship at Yatton Keynall, Bath yesterday.
Tony (brother of Noel) was in the UK to attend the Isle of Man TT but wanted to try and pick up a ride at a VMX event while he was there. We hooked him up with Klub Kevlars British contact Ben Penny who in turn pulled up his old mate network and got Tony a ride on one of Mark Cooks (works)CCMs*. Mark is the CCM guy in the UK and his bikes are numero uno as readers of Classic Dirt Bike would well know.

We all know how good a rider Tony is and he didn't let us down by finishing fifth outright, sticking it to some of the biggest names in UK VMX. Details are a bit light on right now but I've texted him for more details. I'm not too sure if Tony has his head around the technologies of texting so info may take a while.

As a lead up to our boys travelling to the UK to race at Farleigh Castle later this month, here are some shots from the Bath UK held meeting back in May where Bendigo's Tony Clarke had some good rides on Mark Cooks "works" CCM. On an unfamiliar bike on unfamiliar turf, Tony finished a creditable fifth outright in his class...a good effort.

Stuart I think the white on red plate denotes seniors class....Over 40. I've emailed my mate Ben to find out for sure though.

Yes Mainline the track was great. A bit of top gear stuff, some very steep & rough uphills and dropoffs, no dust a buzz to get right but it would bite hard if you got it wrong. I had a go at the pickets a couple of times but they were no match for an out of control CCM

Well done TC91, must have been a buzz riding over there against some great riders as well. What was the craziest time there or the isle of man? Did you see any 79 4 valve CCM's racing.

Regards Stan.

Hi Stanley
The TT was definitely the highlight. Legalized madness even at night on the Douglas promenade. Got stuck in Bushy's bar one night or was it 2, not sure. I do know that when the rock apes on the door tell you that you have had enough they mean it. But I was good and kept up the family tradition.
I didnt see any 4 valvers but Mark Cook and I had some very interesting discussions about CCM's, his opinions about which ones are the best are interesting

Speaking of CDs ... I like the pic of you, Stan, in latest Trailzone mag.   (Wheeling the KX front end.)    I like the way you sawed off the frame behind backbone and downtube, rather than unbolting the steering stem.   Yakuza-style mechanics.

Can you post some more action shots of that #79 bloke on the CCM, please?

And Dave ... you are deleting more and more words per sentence, each week - in your Forum Replies.   Too much KTM premix smoke on the brain ...

Funny thing as I was wheeling that front end past Firko's camp I heard some mutterings about knowing what rods to use to tig it back together again. Don't know what that was all about  ;D ;D ;D

As far as action shots of that guy, theres not much action in his riding anymore.

Regards Stan.
