I'm getting new fork springs for 38mm KYB forks but nobody does them in the correct length (658mm) the closest avalible is 600mm and the difference is made up by use of a spacer. By using a spacer and shorter spring does this have any adverce affect on performance ?
and also by chance a Holden red motor valve spring is the same diameter and length as the spacer I know its a bit out there but how would that go.
Any ideas :-\

Changing the length of the spacer is fine.
I wouldn't use the extra spring unless you want to reduce the spring rate. It will make your existing springs softer.

I might give it a go as the spring rate I'm getting is .02 kg/mm heaver than I need I'll see what happens.

Long spacer would possibly lead to the spring coil binding, using the valve spring instead will soften the initial spring rate until it coil binds, there is a formula that explains how 2 springs on top of each other give a different effective rate. I'm sure walter can explain this quite well
