thanks fella's ;) just need to convince myself they would be better than TS185 shocks :) a big ask I know but I'd really like them gracing a pre'78 project I have ;)
-
If you tell me the part number on top of the shocks then i can probably tell you what they were off. They were also availble pre 78 or at least came out in 78. My brochure says something about how GP riders used them in 77.

Hey doc love the Mr Motocross poster that was the year i ran the NZ round for Vince Tossero- and no im not gay!!

bazza, hindsight is so wonderful sometimes..not! (insert a fair dinkum idiot smiley here) Working in the
bike industry from '78-'84 I had most of the Mr MX posters from the late 70's and early 80's but when I got
married I had a big cull of 'crap' I thought I'd never really want or need. Amongst the cull were these
posters and my magazine collection (Rev's and T&T) They were all well read, tatty and the posters now
quite 2nd hand from being shuffled from wall to wall using the good ol' sticky tape method of display ::)
Fortunately the magazine collection was donated to the toilets at Phil Beaumont Motorcycles and
provided many with great reading matter whilst totally littering the throne room. Years later these mags
were collected and boxed up for the dump but a good friend had the foresight to stop by my house on
the way to the tip and my collection came home to roost..the rest as they say is history and I still have
them to this day. The posters on the other hand were screwed up along with my ultra-violet (black light)
posters and simply binned never to be seen again :'( I have 2 of these Mr MX posters nowdays with only
one being an original item from my adolescence but everytime I see any of them the great memories come
flooding back :)
A little trivia, the Mr Motocross series was promoted by Vince Tesoriero and his marketing and
promotions company was Forcefield Marketing. Vince was the man of motorsport promotion in the 70's
and organised for Pepsi and Golden Breed to sponsor the six-round series which included a stop in New
Zealand. He also promoted the Castrol 6 Hour.
The artwork was was illustrated by the late artist Peter Ledger who went onto achieve more fame as a
sci-fi and special projects artist in the USA.
Here's the bigger version I recently posted on the OzVMX site

Hey Doc (off track sorry)
Were the program covers usually the posters for the year like these 83 and 84 Broadford programs.

Not sure Mario, the posters I had were the promo ones sent to the bike shops and they were blank on the flip side. I only ever went to 1 Mr Motocross round at Tivoli and that was the year A. Gunter and T. Williams were supplied the factory SR500's which were then surrounded by much hype and secrecy..thinking back now it seems like it was just yesterday ;)

Leith, may I ask for your assistance please? The ID numbers on the shocks are as follows..
Koni 23X- 1001 SP3 704
spring colour code - green and red
They are to be fitted to a '71 TS125 (built to pre'78 regs and not pre'75) but already the spring rate feels quite firm and may need to be altered to suit my light weight. If you have a spring rate chart so as I know where I'm starting at that would be a bonus also. Cheers

100% KONI
100% Koni , possibly aftermarket
-
Yeah they are aftermarket, but that number is not on my list unfortunately You can try Ikon, but they sent me everything they had on those shocks anyway which wasnt much. Dont bother contacting them for parts either because they dont have anything for them. i reckon they can tell you what the springs are though. Im pretty sure i have downloaded a spring chart off the Ikon website. When i told them the part number on my other konis they told me what rate the springs were. I have got the proper o-ring sizes for those shocks if you want to know. I have some other konis that look pretty much the same as yours and the Heim bearings are 7/8 OD x 1/2 ID which were SKF brand so easy to get. You will find that shafts are a silly size of 9.7 or 10.7mm. The best thing to do is get them changed to 10, 12 or 12.5mm basically anything common. I was going to use Ohlins shafts in mine. Then either get the seal heads modified or whole new ones made. The floating pistons in the reservoirs are not too good. They only have a o-ring and no teflon band so they can stick and jerk a bit. Either get new ones made up or get the original ones modified for a wear band. Other option is to use White Power floating pistons which will go right in. Part number is 3612.0024.

Fugg Leith, you just blown about 5 years of Doc's buget!!! ;D
-
Leith whilst I've not measured the dia of the shock shafts they are straight, clean with no leaks. The shock action (including the floating pistons) still feel nice with the spring removed and the heim bearings seem quite firm so I was simply going to drop them into Rad's for a service and go from there. Thanks for the info.
That's 'budget' Davey, it drives my dollar further ;)
