Latest Brit mag Classic Dirtbike features this superb DR/RM Special built by French racer Jean-Francois Helaine. The work and attention to detail is incredible, and it is to my eye nicer than the HL500 that inspired it. Tres bon!

I reckon the TM tank and colour scheme really set it off too. I prefer that to an RM tank
-
Yep, I reckon so too. Those TM tanks are very svelte, and the yellow with the green flash looks the goods. The article is very interesting - a lot of work went into building the bike, especially cutting and shutting the frame to fit the DR engine in there. Incredible attention to detail has resulted in one very cool special. If'n I could I'd buy the thing off him!
-
Sweet… very, very nice!
But it when it bottoms out it will leave a heck of a trench behind it. 12" of travel - 10" ground clearance?
-
That motor is BIG the sump looks larger than my old 202 holden motor :o
Looks nice though.

Suzuki DR or SP 400 donk enlarged somewhat ;)

Hey Graeme did you check out the Monda in the same issue, not quite as detailed but nice improvement to the Maico 490 ;D

I haven't read that one yet. Was that the article that also featured a later CR that had been converted to a twin-shock?
I was impressed with how quick the guy got his TT500C sorted, I love those things. The Bullies, were cool too. But the RMH470 was by far the neatest bike in that issue.

Hell the TT500 was complete and just needed a fluff up, not like the wrecks we usually start with.
The Monda is CR500 engine in Maico twin shock frame. See what happens when our twin shock rules are too liberal.
-
Ahh yes, that's what it was. I skipped that article cos I am not that much interested in Honda CRs, especially the 80s stuff, and I got the impression it was a later model converted to twin shock. But it was nearly as bad from the sounds of it! :D

Graeme did that mag have a story on a Aberg 500 thumper ???
-
No Matt, that's the last issue. This is the latest one, just out. I subscribe online and get it as an e-zine, so I get it pretty much as soon as it's published. Probably won't be in the newsagents for a little while yet.
