Nuthin' in fact they are pretty damned ordinary, especially for a EVO bike, A good set of Showa's tuned in will smoke them every time. (In saying that I have two sets of Simons)

Waste of money really.

so its just a bling factor that costs the earth to buy,so better off buying walter's pd valves which can be dailed in to suit your style of riding and buget

The Simons can be improved by PD valves also but if you take a look at them stripped they just look like Maico forks.

There was a great thread here some time ago by a member that had or was servicing quite a few pairs of Simons.
The member posted some great photos that showed all their inner bits.

That was MarcFX who showed the internals of the simons forks.

And he didn't even need to cut them up to do it…

How about one of you guys donating the Simons forks for the diesection.

I get the material tested if you are that interested.

Surely you only need a couple of small pieces? Nobody would even notice them missing - you could then advertise them as 'MINT' on eBay and sell them onto some unsuspecting Yank.

Sounds like fair turnaround to me!

Lets do it.

I have another set sitting round in bits I ill take some detail photos. Also have set of UDX 60 forks we can dig into.

The way I see it Fox Fork are probably not that much better than 43mm Showa, or Simons better than later KYBs. But they represent what was trick in the day. Its like DG heads, Porky heads and all the other bling, just makes bike building a bit more interesting.

Back in the day a friend fitted Simons forks to his YZ. We pulled them down to check them out, thinking there would be something revolutionary in there but couldn't believe how basic they were. We then pulled my '81 Maico forks apart and wouldn't you know it? The Simons were a dead set copy of Maico forks. Nothing interchanged mind you but the design was almost bit for bit. That's why I laugh every time I see a set of them go for Donald Trump dollars.
A set of Walts PD valves your stockers would work better of course unless the bling factor is your main concerm. In that case it's cheaper to mill the Maico logo off the Maico forks and powder coat them yellow ;D.

Yep, like I said they look just like Maico's.
I would be interested in seeing images of the UXD60 Marc and the WP's of that time if Walter can post some images.
I have never seen them stripped down.
What do they look like they were copied off?

I think the UDX 60s were fairly ahead of the curve, no doubt somebody else some place had done a set of upside down forks, but the UDX forks seem to have had the jump on the WP upside downers becoming available commercially.

Hi Marc,
Are the insides just like a conventional fork or radically  different like a casset?
