It has got some big names in it. "Slamin" Sammy Miller, Jim Diest and Evel Kneival.

I taped "Devil at your heels" when it was shown on the ABC, I have put it on DVD and it's gone all around my work.
Apart from him being a complete nutter the documentary is a masterpeace.

For Ken’s first ever trial run in a rocket-powered car, he borrows Lew Arrington’s car and all his safety equipment (including helmet, fire suit, etc.) The problem is, the car and fire suit are all custom fit for Arrington’s body, which is considerably slimmer than middle-aged, pot-bellied Ken—who doesn’t quite fit the car. The result: Ken takes a trial run in socks and a t-shirt, with no fire suit.

If I remember correctly the "shit-scared" segment with Mick Molloy and Rob Sitch on the Late Show was based on old Ken.
I remember seeing it on the ABC when they screened it after an episode of the Late Show. A mate actually chased down a copy of the doco from the Canadian Broadcasting Corp before you could buy it over here.
My favourite parts (after Ken trying to get into the firesuit) would be
- him telling (completely straight faced) the doco maker how he was going to "steer" the rocket car in mid-air towards a nice soft paddock for his landing
- Evel Knievel coming out to the jump site for TV interview, and saying he wouldn't do it!
- and as the jump get delayed time and time again, the ever dwindling number of spectators and safety crew. I think by the time it finally goes ahead there are two small boys watching, and a guy in a rubber dinghy waiting to fish him out of the river ;D

Hey the guys building the fuel tank were pretty good too.
I think the all time give-away for Ken was when he was going through the launch sequence and he tells Jim Deist "but I'm waiting for abort". I think by that stage we just knew his heart wasn't in it... :D
The Late show did a special on the The Devil at your heels. They actually told you how Kenny Carter sadly ended up.

Not the Speedway Kenny Carter who raced on the edge and sadly couldn't keep up with life.
The old DGen were the best. My favourite ShitScared was when Rob was tied between 2 buses in an attempt to stop them from driving apart, only for Mick to put his bus in reverse. Leo was definitely a funny Wanker.

That's who I thought of when I first read this thread. I've seen the movie about the dumbass stuntman and his crazy ramp, but the speedway Kenny was the one I was thinking of too.
If Kenny Carter was alive and in VMX, I'm sure most people wouldn't see him for dust!
