Title: 1983 XT250
Post by: Husk72 on May 23, 2010, 01:43:26 pm
Guy I met down here in Adelaide has an '83 XT250 thats taking up workshop floor space, and just wants it gone.
All there except side panels and front levers.Says it was running last time he wheeled it outside and kicked it over.
Are parts easy to source, and how expensive are parts for them?
What are these bikes like to pull apart and do up as a racer for VMX?
Any help much appreciated.

Parts are no problem - they made these bikes for years. Even when they released the twin-cam version in 1984, they kept making the single cam bike as a low-cost/farmer's bike option.
They're reliable as an axe too.

Lousy as a serious race bike - short in the suspension and low on power. BUT, if it gets you out there enjoying yourself, then buy it and race it! It will be reliable and dirt cheap to run, and you can always upgrade later if you start taking yourself seriously.

Single Cam XT250  1979 To 1991

If your after parts i'dd recomend Overseas, As you will get parts much cheaper,  I'm restoring a 80 model  &  90% of the parts ive bought have been from uk ebay.  As uk have cheaper postage than US..

If you Need any help or Info , Give me a Yell ;)

Thanks for that Nathan and kringle.
For a bit of cheap fun, which I'm pretty much after down here, cause I don't know how long I'll be in Adelaide,it sounds like just the thing.

Very, very little is the same.
Some bits (like the front wheel) are interchangable, but they are different - and its not like the YZ parts are rare/hard to find.
Actually, the only parts that would be identical XT <-> YZ would be some nuts and bolts...

If you want it gone, a price, and some pics will always help. Usually no price = highly optimistic seller = potential buyers just don't even bother asking.

The TT250 version wasn't a bad thing when it came out. Had this kind of cool water bottle number plate. not much on it is good for the YZ but YZ forks, shock, F/G swingarm etc will fit the TT/XT.

Mine had a Peter Allen pipe that would wake the dead  ::)

Twin cam or single cam stuff, Freaky?

Some sample pics maybe? I get the point about T&T, so I'm not asking for high-res photos of every bit - just some idea of what you're offering.

Still interested in pics from POM, too.
