I've a TS125R project bike I've been toying with a bit in the last few weeks. Today I was doing a little suspension sorting when I noticed something..the TS stuff felt lighter to handle than the TM equivalent. What the!! :o Sure enough out came the scales (calibrated of course ;) )
The TS frame weighs in at 9.80kgs against a TM125 of 10.050kgs.
TS swingarm weighs 8g more than a TM swingarm
TS top triple clamp weighs 550g against the TM item weighing 760g
TS 'steel' steering stem weighs 1.495kg and the TM alloy job is 1.510kgs
Together these few TS125 parts weigh near a 1KG (900ish grams to be exact) less then the TM125 counterpart..try finding that sort of weight reduction by drilling holes or using alloy brakes stays and such! Incidently the TM complete weighs 85kgs and the TS125 is 90kg with all the road gear and battery etc..I found this interesting and it only adds a little more incentive toward this project.

Seem to recall Pokey saying His TS 185 frame was lighter than a Tm 125 also
-
uh huh..he did :-\ I notice smaller dia tubing used quite extensively and since I have never seen or head of an old TS frame breaking I figure the TM125 chassis maybe a bit of an overkill..have heard of the larger capacity (TM400) snapping behind the headset ala the famous pic of Joel Robert and his lowrider RH250. This weight crap is not going to make a pooftheenth of difference in the long run but it really did surprise me none the less..

If your interested Doc I have a couple of lightweight 'left-overs'
I have a centre mount plastic tank that was fitted to a TM125 (needs tap but has cap) and
I have a dented 'hop-up kit' pipe, I bought it for my TM125 but it exits at a different angle (tail is about 3 inches lower than TM)
and I don't think it was ever meant to have a muffler fitted but it has similar mounts to a TM but no muffler mounts
or any evidence they were ever fitted.
If you want these parts you can have them for $50 + postage
I can send some pics too... ;D
-
Ta Cyclegod..I'd be interest alrighty especially the pipe as I don't have anything suitable or even half suitable. Could you email me some pics when you get a chance? [email protected] many thanks :)

Did you say you were looking for one of these?

yes CG..about me and million others.. ;) I imagine it's in many peoples watch list awaitng the final seconds. Have seen a NOS item sell for over $200US which is crazy when I can buy 1 new and have it delivered to my door for $230au. The reason they are expensive from new is because of the magnesium content. The reason they are expensive used is because they break if you blink at them too hard ??? I bet this item goes for about $100us. Been using some rainy days to swap some bits around on the TS125R mxer and after looking at prices I've decided the TS cover is the perfect choice..cost was nil and it keeps the TS theme going ;D

PS..has my bro dropped by to collect the TS goods yet ? I've not heard boo from him ???
-
Trev picked up the parts a couple of days ago, did you check out the guys other parts? I'm bidding on the "Wisco head" ;D
-
did I see the other parts???...noooooo..I'll go have a look but the stuff is running hot in the US of late..don't they know it's winter and their toys should be all be parked up in the basement for at least another 3 months!! ::)
-
SHIT!!! Already outbid by the same prick as last time >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Maybe watch a bit closer, auction finished on Dec 9th. Hairy prices, all the same....

I put up the early one to show that it was the same ebay user who keeps outbidding me on TM stuff, he also won 2 NOS mag covers this year both for OVER $250US :o :o
-
Hats off, my mistake. Some of them fly into bid fever and trash it for us all. Still worth plugging away though, I have got all my riding gear to take up vmx off ebay for less than half price, and a few other wins as well. But you gotta shrug sometimes, as you log off gritting your teeth....
-
I found some real bargains and paid through the teeth for others in my time, anyone who comes up with a fibreglass or CNC replacement for under $100US will do brisk business.
-
I thought we talked about that we where getting a quote from china ?
-
POKEY you still out there .....seem to remember talk of him making a plug ??? did it happen
-
I heard from Pokey late last year but that's it..said he'd been very busy with work and he hadn't done much with the TS. Strange he should vanish totally. I suspect a female in involved :P ;D
of course, I maybe way off track :D
Freaky I thought a reply from China was imminent also ??? ??? they are probably still laughing at my piss poor requisition :D no reply means "so solly no make cover for vintage lacers petty needs" ::)
-
well CG, it seems I am totally out of touch with the 'real' world..that used ebay TM mag cover went for $218US + shipping :D
as stated, crazy when one can buy a new cover for less delivered to my door. If people are too lazy to look or have money to burn then that used cover is right up their alley. Seek and ye shall find. Incidently, I scored a good RM125S motor in exchange for some TM400 bits yesterday. Not only is the motor extremely low hour and never had a spanner or screwdriver on it but it came with a '100% intact' mag cover ;D
-
Thats a good score on the motor, I had something similar with a TM100 bottom end, Funny about the mag cover for $218 as the webco head he was selling went for $232 :o
-
After a little checking I see that the same guy has spent nearly $700 US on the sellers TM parts, he also bought a GEM reed valve kit and cylinder modified to fit it
-
yeah I'd also noticed his other purchases cyclegod..sometimes check to get an indication of how much the bidders pay for bits previously and this can be quite astounding to say the least..sometimes a little amusing and proves I don't have a thing to worry about with my vmx fetish ;)
-
Hey Doc I got on too a TS125 71/72 (orangey/reddy sorta.... tank) very near complete. Stuff the Yamaha This will be very nice project thank you!
-
Doc or anyone with the good knowledge,Suzuki frame no. TS125-70594 engine no.TS125-70596 is which model & year ? Please.
Need too find if you have both plastic sidecovers, complete unit or parts of headlight , chrome trim on the exhaust . Going to be a road type resto as to much of it to strip down. Cheers Tim
-
you've a '73 K model there Tim ;) K for Killer!! ;D
I've only got the one std pipe on the way back from Lozza and I was going to keep that just incase this db stuff goes silly and or if I want to ride peaceful like :P NOS pipe on ebay for 100
-
Taa Doc , Umm I ment I only needed the chrome trim on the pipe :D watching that nos pipe . but have a goodie on the "K" Have purchased a new tail stinger piece for it now.
Hey Doc can you put the TS185 top end on the 125 like the Yamaha 175/125 swap? Cheers
-
NO NO NO sorry but it different strokes folks (I looked into this for my TM-S 1875 project) but you can fit 185 motor into the frame ;)
-
Fit a TM barrel, head, carb, pipe, ignition, internal ratios, a 64t dinnerplate sized rear sprocket and she'll honk.. ;D least that's what I'm hoping :P
-
TS125 Friends Does anyone have a complete stator spare and unwanted for my points TS125K ?(Grumble grumble) found some low class butchery on the set up . Some dill has had a fire in this one and tried to wind and repair the set up >........ D Strange I notice most of the other small bore Suzi's of that era ran CDI. Tim
-
Tim, I have a complete stator with flywheel left over from my TSM125. Tis yours but you should really fit a TM ignition..the difference is astounding ;)
-
Doc your a wizard again!! Um I think I gave you the TM cdi units I had ??? Not to worry as I need the TS set cause it will be a rough resto with lights...... Also got early TS185 motors here too! surprise I need a Cdi box to make a complete engine ;) run.... ;) Cheers Tim
-
Do I smell TS? ;D
Yerp The baby TS frames are way lighter than the TM. most is actually the wall thickness of the tubing although some of the frame is a larger over all diameter specially the backbone and that extra large gusset on the headset. Maybe they beefed that bit up after Suzuki seen what JR did to the RH.
If one was to consider strengthening the TS units, replace the brake support/web with a longer one that extends to the foot peg and another on the bottom of that bend as TS frames will snap behind the peg. Have broken two 185 frames in the same place. Could have been from loose engine mounts and big air but it was fun doing it ;D
The swingarms share the same part number although the TS units have the chain guard tabs and rear footpeg mounts which make it a poofteenth heavier till you get the grinder out.
The seatbase on the TS is slimmer than the TM although it dont look it but it is a lot heavier, a bloke may know where you could get a lightweight glass one ;)
yeah have been busy with work and ....... ;)
Am just up the road from you Stewy at Tanah Merah for now. Dont have the net at home and "may" be having another move to Gladstone soonish and havnt played with my toys for ages. Will catch up with you boys one day.

Thanks Mick..if I wasn't so damn budget minded I'd swoop on that but instead I made my own a few weeks back from none other than hi-bling aluminium and it actually looks the goods. I just fugure for the $60+ to own the shiney bit I'd be better served spending that $60 on a rebore or labour for a crank rebuild and waiting for another to come along locally or preferably a TM/RM mag cover and spkt assy..rare but given time something always turns up at a realistic price. ;)
-
POKEY!!! :o
G'day young fella 'tis good to hear from you! :) Being the boring type being I am I been struggling to keep Suzuki Central a happening thing..need some extra imput ;) Hope ya hang around and get that TS project back on the top of the prioety list ;)
