Title: replacing yamaha yz125x crank seals
Post by: jimg1au on May 10, 2010, 08:12:07 pm
hi
can the seals be changed over without splitting cases on the 1976 yz125x.i bought some gen seals for the crankcase including the oring.i know you can do it in a mx360a just dont know about the little yz125.i have the ignition off getting recoed and the clutch cover was not fitted properly so i have to take it off anyway.half way there to bear crank seals so thought if it can be done why not.it is going to be a race bike so i will need good crankcace comp.
thanks
jim

Pretty sure you can Jim. However, why woundn't you split it and replace the main bearings and seals (I assume your changing them because of hardness due to age).

It would also be a quick check of the bearing cones inside the castings to make sure they aren't loose. And also just to make sure all the teeth are in the right place.

Sounds like your half way there anyway.

the motor has a new top end and prev owner couldent get it to go no spark.i have got a new stator wound to suit any 3 wire yamaha cdi box.i just thought i was near there and they came up on uk ebay cheap so i grabed them along with a swing arm roller gen yz125x stuff.i dont know why the clutch cover was unbolted so i need to check that out any way.so do the seals at the same time.
