This Was made for a Rm 125 B , but could be used on other bikes.
Started with a piece of aluminium C section 32x25x3 thick and cut a piece 62 mm long. Then made a mark @ 17mm in from top and a centre line @ 31 mm ( as shown )
Next you will need a 35mm hole saw ( for 36mm forks ) and a piece of timber - put the bracket & timber in a drill vice and clamp together - run your centre line down on timber and measure a future 18mm down from your 17mm mark and this will give you your pilot drill centre . ( time for a cuppa as I'm a slow typer )

Drill all the way cutting top and bottom , making sure that work piece is square with drill.
Ooops forgot to tell you to mark 2 holes either side of centre line @ 22mm and 15mm down , drill size 6mm drill thru both sides.
(http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i180/mutchoo/003.jpg)Grab a grinder or hacksaw and cut sections out as shown...... 45 degree cut & a square cut that lines up with back of holes.

Clean up all edges and round off as required to suit your tastes...........

Nice work Oldfart. Do you know if Titanium is available in the same section? Jerry

very nice indeed Stu, you're wasted as a plumber :o ;D

Hi Stewart,
That is a great post, well done.
Every VMX bike needs a front number plate holder and that is a great design.

Stewy,
That's a great design and so easy to make, they're nearly as good as the "4mm tent peg front brake cable guide" idea. I have to ask, where oh where did you come up with the idea for this one, I'm truely amazed?
Well done Stew, your photography work is exceptional and provides great detail, and well worth passing on to fellow VMX'ers.

or if you don't have the time, these might do the trick.

(taking nothing away from the elegance and simplicity of Stewarts great work!)

STU you have come along way from using #8 fencing wire at jeffersons farm and mangere Mountain !!
-
You forgot one important part there Bro.....you need to put electrical tape around the fork to stop the bracket from wearing away your hardchrome!!!....now show me how you are going to make the tape? ;D......tipical smartarse plumbers....always doing half a job.....still charge the full amount though....not a bad job for a jaffa.

Bazza, Did you Ride last weekend ???
Crocka shit, Ah duct tape I completely over locked that. But as you can see in close up view top part of forks are pitted
;D

No mate, good turnout. My old man had a stroke sat night and we were at hospital, hes just home today and seems chirper. However i am doing lots of trips to the Flying Jug,drinking Leon Rouge to get in trim for C/D, see you soon mate.

Godd to see your dad on the improve Bazza.

Stu forgot to mention the performance gains to be had by installing a set of his OF Plate Brackets tm. Having a set fitted to his RM 125 allowed him to blitz the field in the last race I saw him in.

Been using those tool peg brackets , $2 a pair and work a treat.
But i like you work Stew anyway...
-
Oldfart I like what you have made. I might have a go myself you've made it look easy.About the tape you could slice fuel line down one side and slide it over the edge of the alloy. jimson

This is better than buying the Yamaha-copy stainless wire thingies from Scott, and mounting the number plate Yamaha style?

Good to see you're still getting mileage from these bright ideas.

Good work Stuart, one of the things many overlook is to secure their front number plate neatly and securely. Cable ties might work OK but I reckon they look a tad funky. In my opinion there's nothing better than a neat gizmo. I use the alloy brackets (bottom) that I turn up out of alloy but I suppose you could make 'em out of anything. I'm thinking of nylon chopping board material for the next pair.I copied them from items sold on eBay for $30+. The other bracket is similar in design to Stuarts but I have no idea of its origins. I've had it on a few different bikes over the years and it now lives on my B&S TM400. Someone once told me its made by Webco, which wouldn't surprise me as they made a lot of cool stuff.

Mark (and others) - you can still buy brackets like the top one in your photo. I bought one not that long ago from Penton Parts. They're stainless steel and cheap, go halfway down this page:
