Title: Skimming brake drums.

Okay Brains Trust, I've got the Monty's wheels apart and brake surfaces are slightly rusty. I thought I would give them to me mate George to skim out and to check for perfect roundness so as to have a perfect surface for braking perfection.

Can anyone suggest a limit or guide as to the amount of skimming - its not pitted rust.

Any other suggestions to getting the perfect mating surface between the drum and shoe?

Easy - Skim the surface for minimal clean up and finish with fine grade emery preferably with a cross hatch finish to remove tool path ridging.

Any decent machinist should know what to do, but it is a case of less is best to enable further cuts in another thirty years, lol

The old shoes should then be made up to suit the new drum diameter as there is no set dimension beyond std.
