Title: whats a delorto worth ?
Post by: Freakshow on December 13, 2007, 11:10:51 pm
im having a clean out on the crazy 4 day free list and one item i put up was a delotro carb, i ran it on a 225cc Vespa race bike which was back in the 80's, cant think of what else other than italian stuff that could use it.

Cut a long story short is $80 too much or too cheap ? its still in bloody good nick, but i got no tuning jets for it and nothing to put it on  ? feedback ? opinions ideas on what i could list it could be used on ?

Ever see the series at broadford ot Nsw, in the 90's ? you would be surprised how fast these bikes ran, would smoke a lot of  smart arses on the Jap bikes to the point at race meets they would pack up and go home in embarrassment.   Mine was water cooled mollosi kit , had all the shit, Fast as.  funny what peole think, but if you saw em race would put a lot of boy racers to shame.  Im sure someone has a you tube of racing at broadford scooter style, they may  even still do it ?  worth the keyboard click  ;)

Used to have round case Ducati 750 with twin dellorto pumpers on, the they used to run a rock catcher non airfilter i.e a cage over the end of a piece of PVC and the threaded part was so you could scew em on, dellorto pumpers = big gut full of fuel straight down the bore, also used to squirt all over shirts, legs and anywhere else youd point if you didnt drain the fuel before taking off :D

There are 28 different round slide Dellorto carbs still available. The costs range from $250.00 to the PHF for $600.00 per carb. We have used mainly the PHF 36 . They are beautyfull item with many different options to tune .main jet, pilot, airscrew, slide , needle , needle seat, and also jets for the pumps.
The downside is there are so many options , that can tear your hair out , when you get lost.
But when you come to grips with them ,they do work great!

Can well vouch for the performance of a tuned Vespa, I thought a fellow was dreaming when I lined up against him at Wakefield. When the light went green he was gone and I'm still slipping the clutch trying not to bog it down.
I fell in love with Delorto's after I stuck some DHLA's on my Escort ;D ;D
But $40 would be more reasonable.
