Title: RM / PE footpegs
Post by: mainline on May 01, 2010, 12:42:47 pm
heresy I know, but has anyone swapped their old PE (PE175X or thereabouts) or RM125N /T pegs for later model items. Just wanted to know what is the best fit without too much chopping.

Cheers

Ive never really found a sucessful fit for these. Been hunting and experimenting for ages. The later ones from about 92? onwards do kinda fit when you either change to 10mm pin or bush teh pegs to 8mm but the kickstarter comes down and jams right on top of the hook on the footpeg spring. On the left peg there is a bit of an issue with the peg on the frame for the spring and you need to shift the peg thats on the frame so the modern RM/DR springs reach the peg and give it enough tension. The only ones i can find that bolt on with no mods and are an improvement on the originals are RM/RMX pegs from around 88-91 They are not ultra wide but they have decent teeth, use the same springs and pins as 80/81 RM/PE and dont look out of place.

You two must be mindreaders as i have been thinking and searching for wider pegs on my RM175 project
for the last few days.
I saw Geoffs weld on ones at BBB and they looked the goods....more homework to do.

I have given Geoff 2 sets of pegs now and he has put wider "rests" on - excellent job.  Don't even think twice now - just send them through to him.  Eliminates the problem of finding later model mounts?

Emgo RM pegs fit great bushed or with 10mm pins, I have had them on 125T, 250N & 400N with no problems.

Didn't realise you wandered past me at BBB Monaro, you should have introduced yourself, its always nice to put a face to a name.

I have some of my weld-on wide pegs on "special" at the moment until the 10th May....

Geoff if you know what Brad Pitt looks like....i don't look anything like him, although my mums name is Angelina  ;D

I was admiring the beautiful work on the frame you had on display...very nice...you had a few people around you and i was going to ask if you could put a small loop on the downtube to clear the header pipe on my PE engine  ;) and try and stand there with a serious face to see if i was for real and work out who i was!
I came over 2 or 3 times and you were busy + i hate nagging people.....next time i'll nagg you  ;D
The air boxes and other stuff you had looked top notch.
I'm sussing out the later RM/X pegs at the moment, but yours are definetly on my list.
Those peg prices, are they for a pair ?
Cheers...Mario

Yes.

It was a bit busy that day, but some of the hangers on were relatives out for a visit.

I doubt that your request would have raised an eyebrow these days as I get asked a lot of odd things ;D
I once turned a centre port barrel into a side port barrel to clear the frame down tube for a hybrid

Not quite a footpeg but nearby. I have a 250 T. Is there a later model alloy folding tip shifter that goes stright on ?

yeah the mid 80's RM's had a alloy folding tip lever

should be this one
Im not 100% sure but i cant only remember buying one nos gear lever and it was alloy so this must be the lable i had left over from it that i have in my hand. I think it first came out on RM125 D and then all the older models superceded to it. Im pretty sure all RM levers up to about 87 fit. I remember its a 11mm spline pretty sure its the 'coarse' one but its been ages since ive looked and cant be sure.

I actually put this one on mt TS185

Part # = 25600-14110
Part Description = LEVER ASSEMBLY,GEAR SHIFTING

I picked up a set of RM80 pegs, 1993-2001, modern wide steel pegs on ebay for under $20...Fits the 1977 RM370 using the stock pins and return springs, although I did cut down the spring to fit. Return is kinda weak, but it fits and no drilling or cutting on the frame. The foot peg seems to fit nice and flat.....I have not ridden the bike yet to give further advise.

Good Luck
