Post by: Noel on May 01, 2010, 08:58:06 am
26/27 June for this one

The year is slipping away and before you know it the big events are upon us,
the regulars and most heaven members are aware of this event but past time to start getting ready for this one
below are a couple of links to vids and articles on the track, lots of you will already have seen them but thought I would paste them up again for some of the new guys

http://www.motorsportretro.com/2010/04/excursion-heaven-vmx-vintage-motocross-buledelah-april-18/

this event is aimed at the celebration of the pre 65 to pre78 era with perpetual trophy races held on the grass track

The
Roy East shield for pre 65
     John Hine Shield for pre70
      Geoff Eldridge Shield pre75
And Ray Ryan trophy for pre78,

As well as these feature races ( which may have 2 rounds this year) there will be age races as well as normal heaven class racing for bikes up to pre85,
gates will be open on Friday for early campers (no riding friday)

full details not yet finalised but thought it time to get the ball rolling
Cheers
Noel

here is a couple off laps of the track, (bit jerky, helmet cam, but gives those who haven't been there some Idea)

Trev, the Evo Challenge is where the later eras of bikes are showcased - this event is specifically for the up-to 1977 models (although the newer bikes will get their own races).

The CRC is always a great event - I'll be there if funds/time/family permit.

good on ya Noel
I was just thinking about doing the same thing (post)

Maybe the Victorians can come up instead of driving all the way to QLD two weeks before or even better drop in on the way home
It will be another two days of great racing

Did you mean to post exactly the same thing twice? Or was there supposed to be more to the second post?

I'll be very surprised (and disappointed) if Magoo is not remembered by the club in the future. But I'll be just as surprised if its tied in to the CRC, when his passion was the newer era stuff.

Bruce was an important, popular and influential figure within the HEAVEN club - just because you haven't seen the club him in the manner and time frame that you expect, doesn't mean that it won't.
In the meantime, I think this sort of discssion, in this thread, is in quite poor taste.

Count us in again Noel, was a great meeting last year and looking forward to it again.

Quick update on 2010 CRC. This year shall see the format change a little , with Saturday being dedicated to the CRC trophy races, including age races and Jack Ireland invitational. Practice shall be from around 11am to 12pm, a short break, with racing to start around 12:30 to 1pm. Saturday night will see a sit down meal catered by the guys from  "Valley Spit Roast" and the presentation of trophies from the days racing. This shall be followed by lots of liquid refreshments and plenty of bench racing around the campfire. Sunday shall see two full rounds of normal HEAVEN racing. Flyer for the event shall be out next week but if you have any questions in the meantime, do not hesitate to contact mysef. Cheers.
Regards
Dan

A few more details leaking out about this ,
the feature races instead of a single longer moto of previous years will this time be a series of shorter races with aggregate point score, that should suit the older bikes and riders , lots of track time with some breaks in between  ;D,

also hear there should be some heavy earth moving equipment on sight in the week leading up to race day.

and age races will include up to pre85 on Saturday so track time for every body all weekend

cheers

"gezz that would be a shame if it went that way". Why change a succesful format

I'm just the messenger

and yes the previous format has been Successful.

But I can also see some merit  in the new format particularly for the pre65 and 70 groups and also for riders who may only race once or twice a year  and are not after an Ironman contest,

Long moto's aren't to bad in pre 78, but get progressively tougher the older the bike and rider

Plus you get to hear a start  grid of BSA and Triumph twins mixed with the old 2strokes three times in the one afternoon instead of only once. ;D

Shoey,
The feed back so far from people spoken to regarding this (mainly those who ride it) has all been positive. I know that I spoke with yourself previously regarding this and so far, your's is the only negative in regards to changing the format.
All things grow / evolve / change over time and who is to say that in five years time, the format may be totally different again. If the response from those surveyed had of been in favour of keeping the original format, then things would probably not have changed. I think that it is a little unfair to critisize the event before it has even been run. But in saying that, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Cheers.

The proposed format worked really well at Canowindra last year.

I have no strong opinion either way, and am keen to try to defend my third place in the John Hine Memorial...  :D

Anyone know if Rossco400kg is going to ride his pre-70 bike this year, or put that young hotshot (Snowy) on it again?

You want to watch out Nathe, 400kilo was doing his best Carl Blecher impersonation, and riding very well in lots of races last Sunday..giving lots of blokes a hurry up!

And ,Yeh thats right Dan , everybodies entitled to their opinion.

i have ridden it , organised it , sponsored it , brought sponsors to it , blah , blah , blah and i would like to ride it but the prevailing circumstances dont allow that.

Best find yourself a new sponsor fella.

Your a bit precious if you see my comments as criticism. Keep your shit to yourself including your condesending posts.

OK guys, are last event at Lakes is done and dusted, so time to start thinking about the CRC for 2010. Camping available from Friday night, showers and toilets on site and a great grass track that shall be mostly virgin track. Time to start thinking about what you are going to ride and to ask the weather Gods to be kind to us again this year.
Always a great fun event and an opportunity to catch up with people and do a bit of socialising.
How about a show of hands on who's coming this year?

OK, weather Gods have opended up over ther last few days. Rain predicted for the track area into early next week so this should ensure plenty of moisture in the track for racing on mainly virginal grass track. Stay tuned. Cheers.

Hello Dan,

The Saturday night dinner, is that open to family and friends of club members? and can you please advise a price per head. When is the cut off date for numbers as I have family travelling down from QLD with children, but I won't know until the week before the event if they can make it on Saturday or Sunday due to work committments.

Thanks

Bob B

Bob,
The meal is certainly open to family and friends. The committee is still finalising the details associated with the event including the meal cost, so I shall advise on that as soon as I can. As for cut-off, a week before the event as usual , so still plenty of time to decide on how many meals your camp shall require. Cheers.

The famous Crawford River Classic will be held at Bulahdelah on June 26/27 2010.
It's time for the Pre ’78 guys to cut loose! In 2010 the Crawford River Classic will hold it's world famous trophy races for Pre 78 bikes to honour our lost VMX mates and heroes. On Saturday 26 June 2010 we will be running the Roy East Trophy for Pre 65 bikes, the John Hinde trophy for Pre 75 bikes, the Geoff Elderidge trophy for Pre 75 bikes and the Ray Ryan trophy for Pre 78 bikes.

This year we will be holding another trophy race for one of the true larrikins and all-round good blokes of the HEAVEN VMX Club - a Memorial Race in memory of Bruce "Magoo" McFarland for Evo and Pre 85 bikes. We expect a HUGE rollout for this one, and even a sea of red bikes, knowing Magoo's obsession for the Red Devil...

All trophy races will be held on Saturday and the normal HVMX Round 4 races will be held on Sunday.

Check out all the details for the 2010 Crawford River Classic, where you can enter and pay online and you can find the entry form. http://www.heaven-vmx.com/racing/hvmx-racing-events/details/4-crawford-river-classic-bulahdelah.html

please get your entries in as there is no entry on the day

It was good, in case anyone was wondering.

My brain is far too frazzled for an in depth report, but:

Good showing in all of the trophy races. The Bruce MacFarland race (for Evo/Pre-85 bikes) actually needs to run heats.

Track was boggy on Saturday, but absolutely magic on Sunday - that dark, loamy soil that you dream of.

Several new members with new (to them) bikes, all walking around with big grins.

Lots of people deserve a big pat on the back for running a great event - including the flaggies! :)

Personally, I've got to thank Graeme, Pete and Eric for the loan of trailer/bikes.

Great days riding guys.

Long way to come for 2 rides but still worth it.

Was going to hang around for the Sunday club event but when it started to rain again on Saturday night I pulled the pin.

Thanks to Ribbo, Julie and Mark for letting me bend their ear.

Big thanks also for Ann and Ally making it up for the day to watch the racing.

No thanks for the mud boys, no good for us short arse blokes when we come off in it ;D

Great roll up for the first Magoo race with as I was told 53 entries! go them pre 85 and Evo Bikes

Many thanks also to Noel for making me welcome as usual.

Shane

Oh, I just remembered - I've got some of Pete Lovering's jets that I forgot to give back. Anyone got contact details from him?
Or does anyone who's going to Rockley see him regularly?

Roger Middlebrook was our WA guest. Top bloke, had a great weekend on the bikes, came on Friday and assisted with set-up and marking out the track. Roger also fixed up the clutch on Carl's Matchless Mettise so that I could have a ride in the Pre 65. Roger can certainly ride a Mettise and he also had his first experience on a jap two stroke for the weekend.!
A big thanks to our sponsors for the weekend;
Engineered Environments
Ross Merrick Accounting
Pro Strip - Abrasive blasting & powdercoating
Newcastle Dirtbike Distmantlers
Thanks to all those who flagged over the weekend and assisted wth the pack up on Sunday, certainly made things go a lot quicker.
Greg Holmes for all his work over the weekend officiating. Mick McMillan for manning the entry gate all day Sunday as well, thanks Macca.
As you can see from the photo's, Saturdays weather wasn't the kindest to us, but the club went ahead and I'm sure that a lot of riders have some stories to tell about their adventures in the mud on Saturday.

Again, thanks to all those who assisted with making the weekend a memorable one. See you all at the next round. Cheers.
Dan

I'm pissed that I missed the CRC. I had planned to drive up on Saturday with Billy Forsyth in my Jagwah but unfortunately the guests that had promised to come on Sunday, turned up on Saturday instead blowing my plans out the window.

I apologise to those I told I'd meet up with. I'm glad the event was it's usual great event. Who won the Ray Ryan, GE, John Hine and Roy East trophies?

Yes Shane, congrats for organising the (very large) Magoo trophy and then bringing it all the way down to Bulahdelah. Thanks to Wiltek.
There were a few guys drinking to the eclipse of the moon Saturday night.
The little bit of rain after dinner stopped soonafter, and Sundays track ended up drying pretty well, with great fast racing, but it was a bit grooved and choppy too.
Everyone went home pretty knackered from two days competition.
