Busy month of August in West Oz.
The 2010 King of the Cross Event will be celebrating in style this coming August. The 25th anniversary of Australia's richest and most prestigious event offering $10,000 in prize money promises to be the biggest in the events history.
Southern Cross Motorcycle Club President Dwayne Kings has put out the invites to all the previous years winners of the event: "We have invited all the big names, we just need to wait and see if these can be confirmed, says Kings "Stephen Gall, Jeff Leisk, Craig Dack, Anthony Gunter, Graeme Smythe have all be invited just name a few. The Club has also invited top riders of today like Jay and Ryan Marmont as well as plenty more on the wish list".
Being a massive event, it is also the third round of the women's state WAMX Championships, where it is anticipated that the country's top female riders will also be attracted by huge prize money.
Dwayne Kings concluded by saying: "As there doesn't appear to be a National round or open event on the same weekend we are intending to get all the top Australian riders over to help celebrate the 25th birthday and make the 2010 King of the Cross Event the biggest and best we can".

25th anniversary, from what i remember was going long before that
-
Probably 25 years with MWA/MA.
-
was part of the Calendar back at the beginning of the 70's and there are a few on here who would be able to confirm, that and if not a longer. Richie kings won it a few times as did Smythe
-
I reckon 25 years is about right...i recall riding in about 1976/7...tho not before that....not sure about Kingsy winning tho...

if you can remember around 76/77 that makes it 33yrs. I think your dad might be able to shed more light on it. I'd better ask my dad too!!lol
-
Spoke to the old man and he rode in 73/74 and it had been won several times by Richie Kings. Maybe they stopped running it for a while and restarted in 85/86
-
Rumour has it that the pre85 could well be added as a support class to the event.
-
We are now looking for the West Australian guys to put their hands up to ride a pre85 Support Class at this top line event. We believe there could be a good chance of reduced entry fees for pre85, (still being negotiated) there is believed to be camping overnight at the track.
Hopefully we will be able to confirm everything in the next few weeks
If you missed manjimup and then don't go to this one, you'll be missing so much!!!!!
-
Just got the word it's on. Pre85 Support Class for the King of the Cross. camping available at the track. So come on Guys far and wide, lets make a weekend of it. If you want to race pre75, stay another week and head to the VMX annual Wandering event.
-
The strong rumour out at the moment is that the pre85 Support Class will be for prize money exactly the same as other support events. Talks are going on with legends of the era to see who we can get to attend, at the moment it's believe Jimmy Ellis will be riding.

2010 King, Queen and Kid of the Cross 25th Anniversary SpectacularShare
Yesterday at 4:56pm
This August 7th & 8th, the King of the Cross-Southern Cross Motocross Club-25th year anniversary
Held at Southern Cross 360 km east of Perth on the first full weekend in August.
Juniors on the Saturday and Seniors on Sunday.
Between 450-500 riders for the entire weekend. This year is also Round 3 of the WAMX Womens State Motocross Championships, which will again attract the top female riders in the state as well as from the rest of the country, as big prize money is up for grabs.
As well as the ladies competing, the other classes will included the Pro, Intermediate, Clubman, Vets, Quads and Pre 1985 classes from yesteryear, all competing for a share of the $40,000 prize money kitty, with the winner taking out the $10,000 prize!
This year there will be a riding school on the lead-up Thursday and Friday prior to the event with Paul Broomfield and Paul Grant coaching. Camping is permitted at the track with Fireworks and full bar and canteen in operation all weekend, so sorry NO BYO
Some previous champions are set to compete in this historical event, will we see the riders from the past 25 years competing, Leisk, Gall, Hogan, Marmont, Gunter?
Southern Cross Motorcycle Club President Dwayne Kings has put out the invites to all the previous years winners of the event: “We have invited all the big names, we just need to wait and see if these can be confirmed, says Kings “Stephen Gall, Jeff Leisk, Craig Dack, Anthony Gunter, Graeme Smythe have all be invited just name a few. The Club has also invited top riders of today like Jay and Ryan Marmont as well as plenty more on the wish list”...
We cannot wait to be at the event, and having competed there in 2009 for the very first time in the ladies championship, MX Weekly's Nicki Shea-Howell rates it as one of her favourite tracks, if not the best in WA.
More information can be found by visiting www.sxmcc.com.au, and of course, on MX WEEKLY

Jay Marmont headlines 2010 BGC Contracting King of the Cross
Autralian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont will headline the 2010 BGC Contracting King, Queen and KTM Kid of the Cross 25th Anniversary Spectacular this weekend at Southern Cross, 360 km east of Perth, WA, as some of the countries top riders battle for the huge $45,000 on offer.
Between 450-500 riders have entered for the Cross-Southern Cross Motocross Club-25th year anniversary event. This year is also hosts round 3 of the WAMX Womens State Motocross Championships, which will again attract the top female riders in the state and around the country.
Junior competitors will take to the track on Saturday with the stars of tomorrow battling it out for the KTM Kid of the Cross whilst the main event of the King and Queen of the Cross takes place on Sunday when the seniors hit the Circuit.
Last year saw an epic battle for the title between Dean Porter, Kim Ashkenazi, Tom Jones and Paul Grant. This year the battle intensifies with the big names of Australian motocross hitting town with fierce battles expected from Jay Marmont, Ryan Marmont, Craig Anderson and Kim Ashkenazi. Louis Calvin, Michael Addison and Dean Porter will represent the Wesrt and all are fresh from the National series and also still fighting out the WA MX state championships.
Last year’s Queen of the Cross event was dominated by New Zealand rider Josephine Adlam who clinched the state title, however work commitments prevent Jo’s back to back championship ambitions.
This season has seen the young ladies of WA motocross step up to the plate with the likes of local Kalgoorlie rider Jess Moore seemingly unstoppable, although still unable to hold off the dominant forces of Annissa Berichon, Hannah Lovett and Chelsea Blakers.
Last years runner-up Dimity-Lee Duke is desperate to make amends for last years elusive championship crown which slipped through her fingers in the last race of the last round in 2009, ironically held at Southern Cross. The girls have a break of just over a month before Round 4 and the grand finale of the inaugural 4 round Women’s WA State MX Championships concludes at the Southern Capes MX Challenge at Jindong on September 26th.
As well as the ladies competing, the other classes will included the Pro, Intermediate, Clubman, Vets, Quads and Pre 1985 classes from yesteryear, all competing for a share of the $45,000 prize money kitty, with the winner taking out the $10,000 prize!
