I,ve been busy workin on some IT plastics and my daughters atomic 50 , no spark and still none so i will have to get it sorted asap.
-
My MX250A chassis is at the powder coaters, a big pile of stuff is getting zinc plated, my front wheel has new bearings and tyre and brake shoes, just need a seat foam to complete the seat, and lastly waiting for xmas holidays to begin + xmas bonus (for new shocks, engine parts, rear spokes, tyre......etc) Then theres the two TM125's :o :o :o
-
mmmm..yup..RM125S powered TM for pre78 DT. Get the crank to the shop for the new rod on the 125A/B. Back to the shop to have the RL barrel bored. Then I may have just enough bits to build a reasonable '73ish TM/TS250. I have a pair of TM400 gear clusters to slot into the mighty TS400 to give it some better ratio's. Still looking for a '69 TS250 carb cap, slide and needle to finish off that old beast..the '71 TS/TM125 will still happen..ummmm..I'm sure there's more but I can't remember..oh that's right..the KLX can get the treatment as some reasonable stock shocks have come my way..RM80Z shock re-seal/oil/gas..JR50 clutch need attention..F11 needs the kickstart ground off and the new shaft fitted..need to swap frames on the RM400 as she's getting a bit ugly on the underside..that's all I can think of for now and it really isn't that much..it's just time is not on my side right now :-\
-
I need to finish off the RM250D, just rebuilt an MX250B engine now about to start on the rest of the bike also collecting parts for my YZ125X, YZ80B projects, have to fix the front end on the MX360A, get around to restoring a couple of XR75's next year and finish the XR75 K1 pit bike MAGOO started on but never completed so that he has a ride at CD5 ???
-
Just a few:
Cr125M x 2, CR125M3, CR250M, CR250RZ x 2, RM400C, RM400N, RM400T, RM125C, RM125T, RM250N, Montesa VB360, Montesa VR250, Montesa King Scorpion, Montesa H7 enduro 250, Husky CR125 1974, KX125 1974, KX250A5, KX80A, DT125 1974, Maico MC440 1974, Maico MC250 1975. I'm trying to be scientific about this but it's not working. some of the projects are flowing into each other.
Hindall Ducati 350 :Blingmobile
*The Rickman hubs and Borrani rims are at Chivos being laced up with stainless spokes.
*I'm fine tuning cardboard sidecover templates before I make them in aluminium.
*footpegs, brackets, handlebars and bunch of small things are ready to go to the chrome platers after Christmas.
*I'm waiting for gasket set, Venolia Piston and Megacycle cam and kit to arrive from the USA then I'll start to assemble engine.
*Waiting for the front fender to arrive from the USA so I can include it with the rear fender, tank, Ceriani fork sliders and a bunch of brackets to go to the polishers.
*Arnaco shocks off to Walter at YSS for a modernisation.
*Seat going to upholsterers for new leather cover (I said it was bling).
CHENEY YAMAHA 360
The frame, forks and engine are still enroute from the USA but Paul, the bloke I bought it off has sent me the tank, seat and a bunch of brackets and stuff so I can make a start restoring them so that they're ready to go when the rest gets here.
* RT1 360 ENGINE: I've fitted NOS crank, DT2MX gearbox, IT465 ignition, NOS GYT barrel and piston, ACK head, Skunkworks inlet manifold and NOS 32mm Amal carby and NOS no logo DT2 MX outer cases. The engine is complete and during the week I'll mask it up and paint it PJ1 semi gloss black.
* The NOS Borrani rims I got off eBay should arrive during the week and as soon as that happens I'll take them to the polishers and then to Chivo for similar treatment to my Hindall wheels.
*I'll make a start on cutting access holes in the bottom of the Cheney alloy tank to enable me to panelbeat the three dents that can't be disguised.
*The seat will go to the upholsterers with the Hindall item for recovering in original style vinyl.
*Take the GYT pipe/Supertrapp muffler to Impact Glass Beading for a cleanup before I paint it.
*I rang Cheney Racing in England on Friday night and ordered new side covers, air filters, right side footpeg and tank stickers.
Hopefully all of those things will be finished before the rest of the Cheney gets here so that all I'll have to do is to polish up the frame and assemble the bike using my own engine. That's easily said of course. I've been restoring bikes for 20 years and nothing ever goes that smoothly. I'm anticipating some problems.
MAICO TRIALS BIKE I've stripped it down to every last nut and bolt and I'll take the frame to the blasters and then the powdercoaters for a fresh silver job. I've modified a '70 Maico narrow fibreglass tank to replace the CR125 Elsinore item that I think spoiled the look of the bike (already previously twin packed Maico Yellow). I'm fitting a Honda TL125 mesh heat guard to the hand made exhaust hot box to hopefully prevent a burned leg and to make the exhaust look more factory. I've got new Michelin rear and Mitas front tyres to fit and then it's a simple reassembly.
There's still work to do on other bikes as well. The squarie Maico needs rings, the Suzuki TM/TS VMX project bike needs reassembly for CD5, the TS100 pit bike needs a bit of tuneup work and the blender needs to have some minor details upgraded. Thank god I'm retired from the real work world or none of the above bikes would have a hope of seeing CD5.As it is my arse will be hanging out but I have to admit that even after 20 years, it's still all fun.
-
well i really should be doing my TT500 thats been lying around my shed, waiting patiently for some life to be breathed into it,
BUT,
and Doc, if yore reading, listen up! i went out to the local go-kart track to watch the bucket racer boys throw down a few laps and as it turns out, with some different tyres, maybe another size front wheel, i could race the little mx125 on the tarmac Ah,La vintage motard/bucket racer thingamebob.
so i should be doing my TT but i just can't help thinkin about building something cheap to Hoon around that go-kart track.
now where's that 18" front wheel when i need it?

Shit loads of jobs around the house %&*$# including clean the gutters and sort out my sock draw :D
as for bikes its a total ground up rebuild for my 1985 CR500RF as follows
awaiting on the crank to come back after a new OEM rod kit fitment then to fit with all new bearings and seals, got my Vertex piston and had the barrel honed (its OK on 3rd oversize, i thought it may have to go to last over). pulled all the linkages apart for inspection and regrease, got my magura Hydraulic clutch kit to help me out from compression lock into corners when i have arm pump, changing frame from the 85' model to a 86' and made lugs ,brackets to suit (85' frame is showing its age, some crushed bottom tubes and cracks and elongated engine mount holes), sandblasted cylinder and head for the factory look, rebuild aging wheels with Excel gold rims and S/S spokes, repaired electrical connections on CDI etc etc.
i also need to get down to YZhilly's "Yamaha Shrine of remembrance" to check out his daughters Pit Bike ignition problem (just got home from work now hilly so earliest will be thursday nex week now mate)
i wish i was retired like firko or could turn the clock back 10-15 years, too busy with life in general these days with unimportant shit distracting me from what i WANT to do.
Get serious and cosmetic clean up the CR250 i have half assed tried to sell for too long and advertise it on Ebay/trading post.
give the KTM 300 a birthday going over and get a trail ride in with the boys and talk some shit on top of a hill.
Sell Mr's Hoony's CB600 Hornet as she does not ride it since the Mini Hoony and # 2 soon due have come along.
oh and clean the Barby !

Summer Projects Not Mine.
92Honda RS 125 that will hopefully make 50hp
1974 KH 125 & 110 that will be 35 & 26hp
90 Honda RS 250 85hp
RGV 250 75hp
RD 350 80HP
TM 400 60HP
KX 60 20HP
Scouring the world for alternative rods/bearings/ pistons and using tricky electronic ignition/ powervalve controllers
Mine will be to fit a front brake that provides some retardation to my TS 400 and maybe a new chain(just for you Rossco ;D)
Hoony try pulling on all the connectors, pit ike electronics are very good.
-
will do Lozza.
Who's the Mad forker who's riding that 60Hp TM400? are you fitting an ejection seat (oh i forgot, that is standard equipment on them ! ;D)
-
thats what i was thinking. a 60 HP TM 400 is crazy!
-
And an 80hp RD350 is dreaming.... ;)
-
Thankfully not me Hoony, but 60 at peak not 15HP then 60 1000rpm later.
Fortunately GD with engine simulators and electronics 75-80 hp is very easy these days from a humble 4LO/RZ 350 engine. The alky burning sand dragsters are up to around 130HP.The pipe spec I have been given made 70 with standard ports.
-
You will need a good clutch upgrade to cope with the power on the RD350, standard one slips after 55HP and is practically useless 70+
-
after my accident i was told to sell all my trail bikes so now i just have dirt track bikes lent to restore

sigh...
Two flogged 1985 WR400 Huskies that need to be made into one good one so my mates son has a ride next year.
One 1988 WR430 Husky in boxes that needs to be completely rebuilt. The last Swedish Huskamabanana. I cannot believe how flogged bikes can get and STILL run. Why do blokes bodge repair? Why? It's something I'll never understand.
A ton of bits that need to be sold on flea bay.
A 1973 Husky that needs to be bought when I sell the shed detritus.
Oh, and a house that needs to be built. Slab poured on Wednesday. Cracker 6x9 shed of my dreams to be built and landscaping that needs to be done. Plus on call over the next two weeks due to the season of silliness.
Sigh. All I want for Xmas is one quiet day all on my own in the shed with the bikes and the dogs. And maybe some mates drop over. Talk bikes. Laugh.
Merry Xmas everyone!!

Hey Lozza, want me to send a pix of what happens to TM400 when you try and extract more power than the crank can handle? Ive picked up a few piston skirts with that crank and punched the lot thru the bottom of the engine so Ive kept all the bits just to remind me how good it was to sell it! Funny though how I would love to have one now! (garage queen only, Ive had the inplant.) :o

Banshee's rarely struggle in the clutch dept. Just use the TS crank they are bullet proof. :D

6. Put a new top end on the 84 YZ125, and fix the forks.
7. Get the 99 Husky ready for rego.
8. Put an ignition on the 78 YZ125.
9. Find out why the 77 YZ125 won't run.
10. Start the 77 YZ175 project.
11. Rebuild the 80 YZ125 basket case.
12. Put the 89 KTM back together.
13. Get the SL100 running.

I'm goin for a ride for a couple a days ,drink piss and watch the cricket for a couple a days and start on my YZ250J and son #2 YZ125K . I reckon i might get them both up on the workbenchs and take some before snaps and that will be my holidays done. Ooops i have to finish the missus's IT250 or she will just keep nagging too.
-
I've finished my YZ465 but realised that it's JUST not my bag. I promptly sold it to my sons mate and have bought a BSA B50 and a CZ 250 Sidepiper basket case. Over Xmas I'll dust off the long term '78 Magnum Maico with an 82 490 engine. I started it in 1997 but overseas work and then setting up a new business has taken its toll on the bikes progress. The B50 is pretty right but I'll replace the Honda front end with Cerianis and a BSA wheel. The CZ's a mess even if it's all there so I'll pull it apart and box up the parts to go to the platers, polishers, wheel guy, painters etc. I'll order the parts and start on the engine myself with the plan of having the three bikes at CD5. I'll have to change my name to Maicoboy or Beezaboy now the Yammys gone from my life.
Lozza, assuming you do manage to extract 60hp out of a TM400, how is the gearbox, clutch, water pipe frame and substandard suspension going to handle it all. A few years ago George McKenzie, a very smart cookie from Briz Vegas fitted a stock Maico 490 top end to his '74 440 and the bike became instantly unridable. The frame and especially the swingarm flexed, the suspension torqued up under power load and acording to George, riding it it was less than enjoyable experience. Maico31 may have something to add on that bike. I doubt that the TM400 engine has anywhere near enough holes of the right shape or in the right places in the cylinder to achieve anything like 60hp but I'd be more than willing to be an observer from a safe distance on its maiden voyage. Laurie Alderton once said that "a piece of shit will always remain a piece of shit, no matter how much money is thrown at it"

211..if you like I can do you a deal on that 'good' TM400 crank I picked up from you a few years back..I could even get it chromed since you only want a garage queen ! ;D
Here is a pic of my next bike...nice eh! 8)

Yamaboy, Yamaboy, Yamaboy ::) never said it was in a TM frame, gearboxes are bullet proof, Kevlar/carbon and well I've put all the holes and they all work a treat. The Kiwi Guru whom I defer to on these matters in '78 built a TS 400 engined road racer running methanol that today still revs to 8500, and that engine still exists in it's original guise today and is still winning races.

Except when you want to buy some Chinese/Indian/Thai/Italian food, except maybe Korean stuff like your Daiwoo, then maybe some Jap bikes, a Kabab or two, some Chinese market garden veges and the list goes on. Call it what you like multi culturalism, place full of Wogs/Gooks/Slopes/Lebos, they all add to our great land. Without them we'd be just another redneck world hating mob of biggots, though we do have our share. ;D

And yeah will anyway I am still building up my Noguchi YZ125B and I have to do the gearbox to the YZ125J, the YZ125X could do with a spuce up and motor job and I should get one of my YZ125C's up and running, but then what do I do after christmas ;) ;D. Oh yeah, the YZ125L and the YZ250H, na its got to stop somewhere.

I have projects dating back to 1990. All unfinished pre '90 projects have been sold off. I have decided to just be a caretaker of old stuff as I have never been able to find the Roundtoit that I need to finish off all the projects that my young mind seems to think my old body can fulfill. Perhaps I'm just a collector of projects.

I have to finish the spice rack, they keep falling out one end.
Fit the 1500cc big bore kit to the CT125.
There's never enough hours in the day, after watching Mel and Crotchy till 9 then replays of wheel of fortune till noon. Afternoon's snooze time then the soapys run through to those fine news programs, time to get the kentucky fried chicken for tea. A current affair, funniest home videos' (that baby breaking her legs was halarious) then relax with 15 longnecks. Modern life has pressures they wouldn't have understood years ago. It takes nearly 12 months to get the $5000 baby bonus and the plazma screen needs updating.
You don't see many 50 year old world champions round but I recon a motivated man like me still has a chance, if I just had some money, some personality, good looks, some skill, don't need a bike cos I got the CT and once that big bore kits in nuthun'll catshit. Time to go, it's the wheel of forntune episode where Turp's makes the slipup with the purple tie and pink shirt. ;D Seeya's in the Tab.
