Just thinking about this after seeing a couple of mint looking examples of what I am chasing on ebay over there. I was wondering if someone on here does is able to help out.
Are you able to ship from anywhere in the states and to deliver to elsewhere other than Melbourne? I'm in central QLD.
If the bike is a Mxer is a title still required?
I ask only because one bike I looked at, the owner didn't have a title, but could supply a Bill of Sale? ??? I'm not up to speed on how it all works in the states! ??? I assume a Bill of Sale is just a reciept, but not sure if this is sufficient to then let me import the bike.
-
thats cheap, paid that from NZ to Melbourne.

Craig72. Lack of title is not a deal breaker. You will need to have the bike stripped so it is exported from US as parts and not a complete motor vehicle. I have a bike coming that is now a rolling chassis with engine crated separately and tank, seat, airbox, exhaust boxed in another carton. It cost me $250 to have bike stripped and cleaned (very important). The seller did a very professional job and I consider this good value.
If it makes financial sense then no title isn't an issue - you just need to factor in yet another cost to the project! Good luck
-
Sounds like you had a very accomadationg seller there PEZ.
So with the lack of a title, having a seller that is willing to strip and clean the bike is the deal breaker by the sound of it!
-
what do you do if the bike dosent have a title?????

hey jim my guy says any thing pre 88 can come no title

It,s pre 89 for no title,i had to get an import permit ($50) but it is strait forward for anything pre 89.

Is that getting it out of the US or getting it into Aust
-
whats bjays answer to the question after all he is the 1 importing the stuff.my guy dosent want full bikes as they take up too much room would preferre boxes but if seller wont do that other alternatives would be good.
-
Thats to get it into Aus,i had to fill out forms ,get a passport photo, get it signed by a policeman or pharmacist or jp and send that guff off to Canberra.Apparently Aus is the only country in the world that you need to do this.I printed a form from www.infrastructure.gov.au ,just follow the links.

thanks Bj that makes it clearer

I normally use Smith International, Melbourne. Nick Smith brought my corvette over a few years back at very reasonable rates. I recently got a quote for a bike at $500-$800 + duties. It seems it was harder for him to get a bike from NZ because the customs rules are different and more paperwork. He has a contact in Longbeach, California, and they can also help with pick up within the US.

I recently imported an MX bike from Connecticut USA to Fremantle ( thats that port on the west that nobody uses to bring bikes in)
all of the above problems were encountered along the way.
The bike was picked up at the sellers home address packed into a timber frame freighted across the USA to longbeach california then shipped to Freo.
all US exports have to be aproved by homeland security they require the bike has a title and a bill of sale ( the bill of sale needs to be notarised in the US the seller should organise this with the bill of sale.)
My bike had no title so the seller organised a standard letter from the Connecticut dept of motor vehicles which states that certificate of title is not required for vehicles manufactured before 1981 (different for each state)
The shipping company still had to do some smooth talking to the US customs before they finally allowed clearance.
It is very important to get your Australian import licence early on as it takes 18 working days to process at the moment. The bike will not be released here in Aus until you have a licence.
Bjays deal sounds very fair however be aware that local port charges Quarantine inspections customs entry and wharfage costs can add up to a fair amount I am not sure if some of these charges are included in Bjays pricing.
You will also be charged 10% GST on the purchase value of the bike and the freight cost. No additional duty is payable.
Hope this helps clear up a few points ask any questions and I will try and help
cheers Gary T
I have recently joined VMXWA and am looking forward to my first outing on May 23rd
