Title: PE250T Speedo Housing
Post by: TT on March 17, 2010, 09:40:50 am
I've got a decent working speedo, but it's got no outer housing so I'm after one in decent condition.
Would any other model fit?
email, pm or phone me on 0410 504 815

Beauty Tim. I'll try and dig up a photo.
I'm actually not going to be that pedantic about it, if it's close I'll be happy.
I just want to get this bike running good hopefully for Harrow.  ;D

I have also got another one but it has a split glass I have two correct speedos for 6 pe's which doesn't work out but I would probably be a bit scared riding with the correct one on incase I crashed and broke it.

if you want to keep your nos speedo new leave it in its box and refit when the bike becomes a show bike,in the meantime fit a ts100a/b speedo, they have a brown face just abit shorter in height but know would notice ;)

I've found one of the early ICO tripmeters in my cupboard which might be a reasonable replacement.
Does anyone know when they first came out?

If you just want to run something to block off the hub drive/cable, then you could run one of the much smaller square tripmeter units off a RS, DR or USA PE. Much easier to find then any PE, T500/350 speedo or a mid 70's TS250/400 speedo. Other option is to use TS185/250ER speedo they should read correctly but i would have to check to be 100% sure on the hub gearings as i have forgotten it. Worst case scenario you would need to use the TS250 (which has 300x21 tyre, which is same as PE) worm gear and pinion out the hub so the TS speedo reads correctly with the PE wheel/tyre. But obviously they are a square unit and not round.

I dont know if they used the same gears but I understand what LWC is saying because the stock speedo reading 100kmph or whatever does not mean that the speedo cable is traveling that fast it is geared both ways in the hub speedo drive and in the speedo itself so the ts with smaller wheels and perhaps different gearing in the hub may read different on the pe gearing.

I mean if you used an electric drill on the cable they would both read the same but on the hub it is hard to tell it would be silly to take it as 100 percent accurate boot down the road thinking you are doing correct speed but being 20 or so over or under. ;)

A good way to check would be to buy a push bike speedo I had a good one that only cost about $60 I think so it would be good to sit that on the bars and check that against the speedo you have on.

If its off a 21 inch wheel there is a good chance it will be correct. With out checking The TS100 speedo on a 21 inch wheel and wheeling out the bike 100meters and measuring it you dont know exactly for sure. Some speedos are different, depending on the gearing in the speedo and some vary in the hub. I know the 1980 TS185 and 250 use the same speedo but the 250 has 300 x21 tyre and the 185 has 2.75 x 300. The gearing is just altered on in the hubs to suit the speedo. I have tryed some suzuki speedos off 19inch wheels but they dont read correct and it takes a bit of working out to see what should be the rigth gears in the hub and then once you did that you then have to find a suzuki that uses those gears if there is any. if you start with a speedo of a bike that has the same size tyre or at least rim size, then your halfway there.

Also on the back of many suzuki speedos there is a ratio written.
