Title: Leaking Head Gasket CR250RD
Post by: Woody on March 13, 2010, 04:10:19 pm
Guys
Decided to freshen up the top end. All bolted back together and noticed that coolant is leaking from around the head gasket on both sides. Hadn't started the bike as yet. Before I pull the head off again, I thought that I'd ask here what could have gone wrong? Should the high side of the inside ring of the gasket go up or down? I used a Winderosa head gasket. Haven't had any problems prior to this.
thanks
Woody

here's a pic of the one I took out;

did you face the head and barrel surfaces
high side from my experience is just that the top so up
other then that make sure you cross pattern as you are tightening the head down

thanks Ian, was starting to get fairly worried for a while - could it be a warped head etc. Pulled the head off and reinstalled the old gasket as a test. Good as new with no leaks at all. Must have been a faulty new gasket. I used the Winderosa brand http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230340372652&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123 .
Have now ordered a nos Honda gasket to put in.
cheers
