As Dot claimed in the other thread , that he was the founder of Classic Dirt Bike Market , a magazine prior to VMX . I have to say I never heard of it before , but I am interested to know the story , as this is part of VMX evolution . Dave , Firko , anyone ?

think he said it was called Classic dirt bike market

I had one of the original issues.. it was a small soft cover vintage magazine.
I subscribed to it and somehow when it ceased i ended up getting a free copy of the first issue of VMX magazine

Yep, I subscribed. Think I still have them around somewhere.
Back when Dave started the mag there were still some great deals in the for sale section. I bought a package deal of huskys. 2x '74 250 mags, 1x '74 250 wr and 1x '74 125cc. All for the exorbitant some of $2,500.
I liked what you did Dave.

Classic dirt bike market (CDBM) was a 16 page monthly magazine that was produced by me and Published by me through out Newsagencies, and subscribers. It was a one man show and a lot of hard work. This Magazine was directed to the vintage movement in Australia, NewZealand, and copies also went to America. North west CZ/ MAICO Advertized with me on a monthly bases, plus many others that l could fined to support ( CDBM ).The main supporters was the vintage Subscribers and it supported them, in news, sales, and spare parts, club results, and in the shed which was a one page spread on new projects that was being built. The editor of Two wheel rang me out of the blue, and congratulated me on this small publication he thought it was the best he has seen for a long time, l was stoked that was good news at the time. Every year CDBM was invited to have drinks with Judith Griggs CEO of the Australia Grand Prix Corporation to organise a vintage motocross race meeting at Philip iland in conjunction with the Australian 500 GP, and vintage was heading in a good direction.
At the time it was going well until my marriage folded and forced to move away and it became very hard for me to produce CDBM, Ray Ryan wanted me to come on board with VMX, and l didn`t want to, but with a lot of persuasion l did, gave ray my subscribers and business that advertised with CDBM and at the time Ray and l talked about the future of CDBM and Ray promised me that CDBM would become part of VMX, and l was rapped which l had in writing,so the next time l was invited to have drinks with the CEO, which was Jeff Kennett and that night l was promoting the first issue no 1 of VMX Magazine and gave the first copy Barry Sheene, that night my car broke down in flinders st, but that didn`t matter and thinking that l was going to get on top of all my worries, the second issue of vmx can out and still know CDBM, so l new then that my mag was never going to be apart of VMX, but the intention was good, but this word was not. The rest is History.
Just would like to say to all the fellows and Business that supported me with CDBM in 1997 Thank you so much.
Regards David Alsop (Dot)

Sorry about the expansion chamber ad, Drakey keeps telling me my spelling and grammer wasn`t good, well thats what mates are for and l new that, But people excepted that from me, Jeff that is amazing, great to see the mag is not being used to light camp fires. If CDBM was still in production your business would be well advertised cheers great stuff.

Yeh, I subscribed from issue #1 & still have all my copies. Still drag them out for a look from time to time.

I have my copies also and they have travelled far and wide...Fiji, Mt Isa, Longreach... All things move on and sometimes the original movers and shakers seem to get lost in the enthusiasm of the new entrants (I bet we have all experienced this at our own motorcycle clubs.) Dave and Mick Murnane were major forces in Vic back in the early days. Back in those days the numbers were less, we were generally a bit skinnier and the bikes perhaps less blingy and much less beauracratic/political. The last is my only regret/problem with vmx but that always come when things develop. The great things is the friendships that I have made all the way through!
