This is the carby of my bitza Monty (VR frame side port motor). This is a Bing 54 carby mounted normally on to the manifold, clamped etc. I'm concerned how close the fuel bowl is to the cases - 2-3mm. Is this clearance normal?
It hasn't been a prob yet but then I haven't ridden it yet either :-\.

Hi mx250 just had a look at my 1979 250,1980 250,1981 414 and they are all about(guess) 5mm away,i can't remember about the early bike's(too many years have gone by ;D) but i would not have thought it would be a problem on yours.Happy riding.

Thanks Mont, just wanted to check before I start doing things like lining up air box etc. It looks awfully close - I wouldn't think it would take too much flex/bounce for the things to touch. That could lead to other probs but if you reckon it okay I'll push and not worry unless i have an actual prob.

Something amiss. I checked my VR (stock Bing) and there is about 5-7mm clearance.
Are you using the correct intake manifold?

It should sit higher than that. :P

The bike is a bitza so I'm not sure about the manifold. Looks like I;ll have to go things and check as best I can. Thanks.

Are you sure that is the correct Bing carbie or more specifically the float bowl? seems to have a larger 'lump' where the main jet is than most. Maybe it is just the angle.
The clearance on my H7 to the Amal is very close<5mm
