Title: Cheney AJS Stormer. Anyone hered of one of these??
Post by: jon strudwick on March 05, 2010, 06:34:22 am
Hi Everyone, Just purchased this Cheney AJS frame, the seller told me it was ex Vic Allen, but don't ever recall him riding a ajs, But when i mentioned Vic Eastwood he said it could be that he had got mixed up between the two.  I know vic Eastwood used to be a works ridder for ajs and that they used different frames to the production bikes but were they Cheney frames ? never hered of any other ajs cheneys about so think its a rarity.  anyone know anything?  I know the tank should be cheney and that the seller had fitted the ajs type tank mount. thanks jon

I'm asuming the frame's for an AJS Stormer / Villiers Starmaker engine and not a 4 stroker Jon. The oil in frame top rail throws me. I've never seen or heard of one and reckon this is an odd one. Are you sure it's a Cheney? If it is, that has Eric making (at least) three distinctly different frames for 70s two strokes when he could have got by with the one design and modified it to suit as the Rickmans did.

Where do you find these bloody things?

Hi Firko, its not a oil in frame, i can see how you made that mistake with the large backbone of frame . yes its for the stormer / starmaker engine. if you have ever seen a ajs frame bare its very similar but about half the weight. everything about it seems to be cheney. steering stops / seat mounts through the side of seat/ side panel duze type fixings/footrests/ chrome  ect. think this may of been made for one of the ajs factory riders with him being told not to change the design to much from the standard Ajs frame, Hopefully someone will know more about this frame (bike). . thanks jon

Sometimes ask myself that same question, but when i here of something rare like this i just have to take a look, the problem is it ends up coming home with me.
