Does anyone know who does rebuilds and hotups for tt500 motors

Ask around on here, there are a couple of specialists about like Hanks but hard to recommend anyone.
Whats your budget and how fast do you want the motor to be.

Yeah you really need to decide what you are going to use your engine for, if you are building dream TT500 that might go on the road then don't go too far with compression and cam.
But if you are doing race engine for HL or hot TT then 540cc, 10:1, Megacycle, WB, Yoshi cam and 38mm Mikuni is pretty good set up.

a lot depends on budget but to do a motor you are probably looking closer to 3 grand

Am happy to pay price for end result just need a name as all bike shops dont waana deal with old motors thanks for all your input

theres a few names on the SR500 link, like a lot of people I am reluctant to recommend someone I havn't used, or even bag the ones I have. Yamaha still has the bits as the SR is still in production. You are looking at about $800-1200 for the motor parts you need assuming your motor is not too bad, big piston and cam add another grand in bits.

I would happily recommend Carl, he does very good work, although an engine by Carl is not cheap.
Stew Ross from Canberra, will be running an SR500 in the MPS/F500 class at the DLRA Speed Week at Lake Gardiner this week using an engine built by Carl. All things going well they should have a class record by the end of the week.

Colin sorry to correct you but Carl didn't build the motor for Stew all he did was dyno the bike. The motor was all stews own work. As for Carl's motors look at his web site in the winner enclosure. A motor by carl is cheap compared with other so called thumper experts. Budget a minimum of $2,000 just for genuine yamaha parts add another $1,000 for H/P parts(rod, piston, cam, valves etc) allow a $1,000 for labour. Curly

Or you can just buy a couple of heat resistant spraycans like I did... Much cheaper ;)

What do you use to trim the fins and get that look Martin?

I just used a hand held air grinder with a sandpaper-cylinder (don't know what it's called in english, rondel??) and grinded the ends of the fins flat.
