and I'd never even thought of running my 'stractors out there 8)

Wouldn't that sun shade over the screen restrict too much of your vision ;D

While rat rods go against all ideals of 'normal' or good engineering, they sure are cool. That FX is too cool.
At a recent Eastern Creek Nostalgia drags there was a ratty old steel Fiat Topolino fitted with a blown 427 rat motor cruising around the pits that got twice the attention the bling stuff got. I intended to keep my DT2MX in it's rat condition as a sort of VMX tribute to rat rods but I've changed direction and it's now for sale.

i reckon my ratty lookin old pe would look at home in the back of that .i want one.cheers gary

:D this is all putting half serious thoughts in my head guys (albeit on a slightly smaller scale of course..probably utilizing the twin strommied alloy rocker covered bigblock sideplate with 3 speed straighline impala shifted crashbox 8) )..mmm..maybe the old beast won't cost as much or take as long as I'd initially thought..just needs to pass roadworthy :P not only do i have a sunvisor but I have the matching rear blinds as well :D
-
"aww, you know a p-p-p-piece from here and a p-p-p-piece from there"
I'm thinking you'd turn some heads pulling into the pits in that! Especially when people's hats are getting sucked into the bugcatcher.

this is my friends set up, to get his vintage bike to meetings. very neat

Hey Doc...I've got a sweet set of triple 1.25 SUs, an alloy rocker cover and a rare set of Jack Myers cast iron headers..all for a sideplater and all for sale!
Get your people to call my people and cut the deal.
-
I really do hate hindsight Mark, I'll be in touch about the headers ;)
ya know, I 'had' a pair of genuine cast iron headers for a grey, I had the canadian cast block with the big GMH logo embossed on the side bored to suit Bedford truck pistons, had the balanced crank, triple strommies, big cam, hot head and lightened flywheel..I sold it all as a lot years ago when I decided to go the XU1 styled 202 with an iron case 5 speed...bloody idiot! ::) I have however managed to keep many other parts for the sideplates thankfully but the 1 part I really need to get things rolling is a useable crashbox from anything pre '63 EJ at a realistic price. It doesn't have to be good good, just useable ;)

These are a couple of my choices for coolest bike hauler. Obviously bikes may not actually fit, but who cares.

mainline the picture of jimmy shine's ute looks like before it was finished.
looks like I tuned out ;D
I thought that was the finished product! I had to make a choice a while back about which mags I would buy, and the VMX stuff won the day.
Having said that, a mate called round this arvo with a cusso roof panel to finish off the mainline......

To think the first car I owned was a 1954 Vauxhall velox ute, in 1970. Used to put my 125 bultaco Sherpa S on the back. Wish i spent the time and done it up now.
it's an Aussie thing though, you have to own a ute at some time, it's the rites of passage!!lol
-
he had a show on cable called hard shine one of the cars they built was his ute he wanted to paint the whole ute black but got talked out of it by the boss of the so-cal speed shop.so he just re did all the welds on the chassis re did the body the same and put green canvas on the interior.another sight for some good rat rod photos is streetrods-online.com over 350 photos of oldskool rods worth a look when you get time.and some photos of the mainline would be nice. my brother owned i think was a 27 chev ute was flat black with acme explosives sign written on the front doors 283 chev no carpet just a very basic bench seat number plates wereKAB.00M.he eventually painted it flat mauve colour red wheels whitewall tyres put 350 chev and 350 auto on gas kool old ute.cheers gary

There's story in a Rodder's Journal mag a few years back about a (crazed) painter who had one of those as his work truck (in So Cal in the 50's). I think he had a worked Cad engine in it. Anyway, the guy would never pass up the chance to street race, towing his trailer, ladders on board the whole lot.... ;D
-
i know a bloke down sydney that was like that with his tow truck,he owned a wrecking yard and his tow truck was an old dodge truck with big horsepower hemi v8 car on the cradle or not he couldnt resist a race off a set of lights and he didnt lose very often :o.cheers gary
