Does anyone know of a helmet relining service in Australia or even O.S?
Is it even feasible on a 30 year old lid?
I'd only consider doing it to a fibreglass helmet, my theory being that the shell shouldn't have deteriorated like plastic.
With a new liner and strap, would it be safe for Vinduro use?
I know Bell used to do it years ago but only on relatively new helmets.
Any knowledge or just opinions most welcome. :)

I dont know what helmet you got but up until not long ago you could buy liner kits for Bell moto 3. I think now you can only get the Moto 4 or a universal kit. If you search on the net you will find some sites that still have them. There is mixed opinons about re-lining really old helmets. I have heard some people say that over time the foam in helmets compresses and also on an old helmet with unknown history eg one off ebay, you do not know what the foam is like under the shell. The shell may look ok but the foam could be compressed either under the shell or under the liner. So although a new liner will make it smell and feel new its not going to repair damaged/compressed foam whether its from general useage or a crash or abuse. So i guess what im saying is you can have a freshly painted old helmet with a new liner but it may or may not exactly be safe or do its job properly.
Back probably 15 or more years ago in MA comptetion they marked your helmet with stickers and you had to change it every 3 years i think. I guess this was to weed out old unsafe helmets. I dont think they have this rule now and they just go by an inspection of the helmet.

Ah, that info helps a lot. I was hoping that when a helmet got relined, the foam as well as the liner would be replaced. Maybe not by the sounds of it.
I wouldn't trust a helmet that only had the material part of the liner replaced.
FWIW I'd like to get my hands on a Shoei ZX from the late 70's. Sounds like if I find one, it will stay on the shelf in the shed. ;)

well i dont think so??? ive never heard of places re-doing the foam. Im not sure that it would be possible maybe some others on here know. I just thought your were talking about the fabric liner.
Do you have a photo of the shoei? I have some old catalogues with old shoeis in them.

Move on.

Yep. Sound advice. ;D
I'd still like to get hold of one though........... but it has to be orange............ :D
I'll try and find a photo, but it was much like a Bell Motostar.

I'd like to find out about relining a helmet also. I've bought a couple of NOS helmets but the foam padding has rotted over time.

I did at one point have a MotoIII given to me by Bruce Penhall when I spannered for him in OZ the year before he won his first world title, sadly my brother killed it.
I personally think that this is a great question.
