Hi Don, any entry forms for this event yet for the blokes who like to be well organised ::)
-
hey Rossco did you put your avatar upside down to catch us out ?
-
Playing in Photobucket and just like my riding, turned it the wrong way, but yeah, prefer your question, did it catch you out :)
-
Gidday guys been missing in action for a while with this meeting, sorry about that! Will get someone to post entry forms up next week.Had to get approvals from council and police to run the event under lights and this is now all OK. For something different this event is a one day/night event with racing from 10 in the morning to 10 at night. We havnt done a meeting under lights ever so please bear with us as we dont know what the results will be like but as usual we will do our best.Because this may be a one off we are making the event a Vintage Meeting with Club support racing. This means we run the Vintage as in the past but will mix it up with juniors and seniors on modern bikes in there own classes. Also have about 10 modern sidecars coming to add to the spectacle.Same deal as before part of your entry money will be Club membership so you can if you wish enter your pre 75 etc. in the modern classes if you want to.As this will be advertised locally we will be charging spectators admission to cover cost of lights so we are expecting a large crowd. Camping will most likely be over on the MX track if you need it.Ask questions and i will keep the answers coming.
-
Not to proud to ask for help so if someone can go to chmcc.zoomshare which is our Club webpage and post the entry form on this site for me I will tell you the secret of how I attract my all girl helpers at our Club meetings. THANKS

now about that secret Donny and also..could you obtain my Coff's membership number?? I was in such a flap last time I never did find out :P
-
Hi Donny,
Reading the entry,
it says once grids are full no more entries,
How many bikes to a grid
if enough entries in any class would you run Heats ,
( thinking If vintage all powers also run in open all powers ) as you suggested in previous post
cheers
Noel
-
Gidday Noel that notation is more aimed at our own club members who dont normally pre-enter a club day. I expect we will be running heats and finals in a few events. The modern events are only a support for our vintage meeting and as such they will only get pionts towards the end of year championship. Thanks Doc for posting this for me.Dont have your club number as it all starts again as at the ist of January.
-
Thanks Donny,
was thinking of entering support race for an extra ride but would not want to displace a club member.
will enter any way and let you work it out,
Cheers

Coffs Harbour Day/night Vintage Dirt Track
The hard working crew from the Coffs Harbour MCC are at it again going out of their way to provide another great event for Vintage racers to compete in. Just to keep everyone interested they are trying something new to the club “ Racing under lights”
This should be a good thing to raise the profile of our sport as most locals are keen to come and watch the action under lights.
I hope the clubs efforts are not in vein and we get enough Vintage racers return the favour and make the effort to compete.
I personally would love to see a full grid of big bores in the pre 85 class or are all you big bore owners to scared to open the throttle on the beasts?
-
One of the local Coffs MCC gun dirt trackers is keen to get involved in some vintage racing, it would be good to make up some numbers if anyone could spare a bike for him to ride. He is a sensible young bloke (as far as a 22 yr old can be) who races modern dirt track, MX and buckets. He has just spent his house deposit on a new Ducati 848. Anyone that wants to see one of their pride and joys on full noise sideways let me or Donny know and we will enter him in the appropriate class, thanks.
-
Donny/FireKwaka, there will be sound metering happening at this event I assume especially given it's a day/night thing??
-
Doc if I cant here you talking ,TALK LOUDER
-
okay, no worries! ;)
-
Is there a website for coffs harbour motorcycle club??
-
Yep, that would be http://chmcc.zoomshare.com/
-
Thanks Graeme,
-
Guys, guys, guys your killing me . We have only got about 15 entries so far.I know I question why I do this every year and I am getting past the stage of begging but like all things if I cant get at least the same numbers as last year this is another event that we will lose!!!
-
Hi Donny,
I will be attending this fine event this year - especially after the fun I had at the Jack Hogg Classic. And the fun at the Nats last year ;)
I'll put my entry in soon.
Cheers,
Mark.
-
me too Donny, punctually late as always..sorry ;)
-
Do we have to shake everybody again? If you took the time to go to the Jack Hogg you should be pumped enough to do the right thing by the Coffs guys WHO PUT THESE MEETINGS ON FOR YOU! and support the Coffs Dirt Track. It's not fair that Donnie has to come on here pleading every bloody year. I guess I'm a bit of a hypoctite because I can't attend because my twin god daughters 21st birthday party is happening on the Saturday night. I'm a retired old fart who wouldn't have ridden anyway but you able bodied youngish fellas should be signing up right away to support a club that supports you. If we ignore these meetings they won't bother doing them again an you can bet the whingeing will really start then!
-
look out boyz,
it seems someones been getting in a little "practice" in preparation for the upcoming flat track event.

Sent off entry today Don, hope they keep rolling in to keep your sanity ::)
-
Any updates on numbers yet Don
-
Rosco, looks like it's just me and you :o
I heard a loose figure of 35 entries, considering the turn up at club meets this is woefull ??? If Donny has to bang his head much more that brick wall will surely fall over sooner or later ;)
-
Gidday guys update as of today is 40 entries in vintage with 65 grid positions plus probably about 80-90 club members so its going to be a good meeting
-
If you've never been to beautiful Coffs Harbour or to one of their great race meetings this is your perfect opportunity. You won't regret it.
I find it hard to fathom that racers would be staying away from this. If I didn't have a 21st birthday on I'd be there for certain. If you went to the Jack Hogg and enjoyed yourself, why not double up with the Coffs race. I'll say it again, if these meetings aren't supported they don't come back. Donnie and his club support our sport the the fullest so I reckon it's our duty to support them when they need us. A couple of years ago we were all whingeing about there being no meetings and now, when there are meetings a'plenty you stay away. I can't figure it out.
-
Well, I'm doomed never to race vintage again. Couldn't get to Coffs last year for family reasons, couldn't get to JH this year cos I took the kids to Crusties, can't make Coffs this year due to family health reasons, and same will put paid to first round of HEAVEN. But I reckon come Hell or High Water I'll be at CD5.
Hope the Coffs meet is a beauty, hammer a few laps for me.
-
I'm leaving the postie at home for this one.
Noel ;D
-
Good Luck to Donny and the club, wish I was going to be there!!

all ready for play :P I even lashed out beating off the moths in my wallet to spend $4 buying a shiney new plug specifically for this highly auspicious occasion ;D if nothing else, under lights, I may be able fry the oppositions retna's with the gleam eminating from my bike's wet look 8) better take a spare can but if it rains I'm rooted :D (http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3474/friday70308rz2.th.jpg) (http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=friday70308rz2.jpg)
here's a bigger pic since, like me, you probably couldn't be bothered to click again ;)

Dave, we'll blow the horn as we go past...'bout 2:30am (http://chrisbachmann.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/msn_devil.png)

Nice little bike that one Doc. I wish I could have been there as well but girls would kill me if I missed their 21st for "a bloody bike race". I'd rather face an angry Donnie than pissed off 21year old twins. "Hell hath no fury like a woman (by 2) scorned".
I wish Donnie and the club all the success the meeting deserves. To those who just couldn't be bothered going, it'll come back to haunt you down the line when good promoting clubs like the Coffs gang decide not to bother with the vintage stuff any more. There's more money in running juniors anyway.
-
Thanks Mark, so long as she keeps running I'll be a happy man. Taking a spare block pattern trials rear as well, the oil track tyre has served me well on de-co before so I thought I'd give it another go..it cost me a small bleeding fortune years ago so I like to try and get some use from whenever possible ::)
PAGING OLDFART, are you going to Coff's?? 8)
-
Doc rang your home line no one home . will try again 6-30 Pm :)
-
Stew, I am sitting at my mama's now cause she feeds me this time near everynight bless her kind soul. I'll be home at about 6:45pm cause I want :-\..oops..NEED to stay for dessert ;D I'll await your call.
-
Well, Coff's is all done and dusted and what a fat time was had! The track was brilliant and the hospitality shown, as usual, outstanding. Such a relaxed atmosphere made it a great day! I think there was only 2 or 3 prangs all day/night, me being one of them on the TM125 but it was a minor rear end loose and a quick grab of the clutch and remount didn't see me drop any positions luckily :-[
The turn up for vintage was better than expected by all accounts, a mixed bag of VMX'ers saw everything from full on sliders to the 3 team yellow XS650's. Can-Am's, Bulty's, Maico's, CZ's..you name and it was probably there..even a few sidecars for Tim ;) Met a few people whom I can now put a face to the name and all in all A GREAT EVENT are the only words that comes to mind.
I picked up my first (and probably only ever!) heat win in the pre'75 250's on Dodgee's lovely TM250 ( a model/bike which I've never ridden before) it seemed nicely suited to DT and went extra extra well on it's maiden voyage even though it seemed geared to do a genuine 100mph!..second gear was even faster!!! buuut alas, we did have a few wee minor issues with the bike, the worst of these being an engine lock up in the last heat and the exhaust flange falling off in the first :'(..oh poo! :( sorry Dodgee, promise she'll be fixed asap ;)
I do have some pics but nothing overly exciting sorry folks, I'll post them Sunday as I need sleep after being all systems go for about 25 hours..a huge day for me! Thanks again to Donny and all involved, I did manage to get a pic of you on the 3 wheeled contraption too! :o :D

thanks for your big effort too mate, things always run so much better with yourself as team manager, chief mechanic, property minder and logistics controller ;)
-
Good on you Doc and the other boys who supported the Coffs meeting. Even though I had a great time at the 21st, I have to admit I would have liked to be up there with you guys. What were the eventual entry numbers Doc?
-
Jimson sorry mate, didn't see your post..the bikes went damn well! for what they are I have not one complaint and they wearn't that far off the pace..the rider on the otherhand more than compensated for this by slowing things up considerably at critical moments, like stalling on the start line..my forte'!! ::)
Firko I am not sure of actual numbers for vintage but I heard ( I think) something like 180/90 entries or so all up..maybe that was the bike figure..I'm speculating but the 190 entries is probably right with about 65?? in vintage :-\ Donny will have the facts and figures in good time I'd imagine and I hope I'm not stretching the truth as it near appeared that..they were everywhere.
Noel rode like a legend riding it what I figured 5 or so different classes but he left the methanol slurping postie special at home so as we wouldn't be embarrassed when he rounded everyone up on it in the all powers event..very thoughtful gesture I reckon ;D and Zorroz..that RM250 is nice..veeeery nice! Was good to meet you and Rosco and see a couple of others again.
Must comment on the young guys on the CRF450's KX's CR's and the likes in modern and junior events..bloody hell..these guys/girls kept it super clean all day long and were as fast as anything I have ever witnessed anywhere! Frighteningly fast is more appropriate and great entertainment between the silly old buggers!
-
Congrates to you Doc and the Club.
Even the weather looked like it turned it on for ya.
They are seriuos tryes on the back of those sidecars, must go to a race met like Dirt Track one day. 8)
-
Well that was a great event went real smooth met some top guys who can ride them old bikes fast!! Must say its alot easier on the old body and I was getting the hang of holding it wide open around the corners towards the end!!!!!
-
Beautiful "Stumpy" sidecars and Doc or anyone else got a story on the pictured Rickman /Suzi nice .. Tim
-
yeah Tim, there is a use for GSX450 donks after all! what a great idea and I kick myself I passed up on a freeby GSX just this past month! The nice little Sickman is none other than the fearless Don Thornton's..main man in the thick of the vintage scene at Coff's and NSW northern rivers area..incidently Don got his MA sidecar swinger accreditation on saturday too so he's officially one of your crew and another soon to be terminal crazy! ;)

short poorly taken vid. of the fastest vintage guy on the day

:) mmmm Noel..I can see and hear that beast reverbing around my brain..he was flying and so damned smooth!! Jealousy is a curse :P there was another guy with a helmet cam in pre'75 250 on a CR250
..does anyone know any more..I spotted it on the start line. Be nice footage to see 8)

Geeez, what a well run event, all day racing into the night, great racing and great atmosphere, looking forward to next year, well done to the Coffs Club and all the efforts put in by there family and friends, and to all the riders who made the effort to get there, if anything to come out of this meeting for the Coffs Club and No13, i reckon youd have to get your entries in early next year as you just may miss out judging by the number who turned up in the end, shame the TM let you down Doc, must have been because it had been sitting so long without any use seeing you didnt get to practice, (but geez it was motoring when it was going, just imagine what a bit of practise might do) ::) ;D ;D :P, The footage in the Pre 75 250s would be good to see if it is out there, two heats and lots of bikes and some close racing, mmmmm just dont get any better
PS Couldnt get the grin off Zorroz's face for a first time dirt track ride, couldnt shut him up with his first up trophy and now hes keen as mustard for his next one ::)
-
Rosco agreed, it was a super event and the TM does need to be ridden more ;D
I pulled it down last night, the plug had showed beaut colour all day, thankfully it's only the big-end fused itself together so that's an easy fix..zero damage other than this and everything was coated in a nice film of oil so my guess is the tolerance was too close to start with and it's not an injection problem like I'd pondered. Sure feel better knowing I didn't totally lunch a fresh new motor ;D it is a wonderful feeling getting your first trophy so I can imagine how blown out Zorroz must be..first time out..congrats Zorroz!..I experienced this last year and I still gladly show it off to anyone who may or may not be remotely interested ::) :D
-
Well Doc,
someone left before receiving their trophy for 3rd overall in pre75 125,
Only problem is the second place getter took home the 3rd place trophy by mistake,
The second place trophy goes on ebay to the highest bidder if no one claims it soon ;D
cheers Noel

Well all over for another year but what a great event!! Thanks to the 45 vintage riders who made the effort (thats 10 more than last year so we are still building this event) that added up to 80 odd vintage bikes on the grid. Add to that 60 club members in juniors and seniors and we had one of the BEST meetings held here for many years. The day was long and in hindsite if we do a day night meeting again we could shorten it but thank you to everyone for being patient as it was a first for us and we wanted enough time rather than running out of time. The racing was definitly the best I have seen in a very long time in all classes with full grids and heats and finals being the nature of the day. Big thank you to the Penrith boys who came up and allowed myself and another younger rider to do our sidecar accreditation. What an absolute buzz to be hanging off a sidecar again after a 30 year gap. Doc not real happy about you coming out of the closet all the time and giving me a touch up , but watching your near loss on the stop corner was sheer poetry and one of the best saves I have seen so well done on your trophy.Huge thank you to COFFS CLUB these guys and girls are just the best and the effort they all put in should never be taken for granted.Racing under lights was just the best and I am glad at my age I got to do it before I am no longer racing. Great bunch of competitors great bunch of helpers great day and night. NOW I KNOW WHY I KEEP DOING THIS
-
Congratulations Donnie. Even though there wasn't any Klub Kevlars in attendance this year due to bad planet alignment, we really appreciate the work you and the Coffs crew put into the meeting. Often we attend a race meeting, ride our butts off all day, get our trophy (I wish) and piss off home with hardly a thought to the hard workers who put on the event. Donnie, in recognition for your efforts and as an apology for our no shows, drop into the Kevlar Kompound at CD5 for a refreshing Kevlarita, Pina Kevlada or Kozel lager and a kevlar kebab or two.
The Sickmans little twin sister will be parked in the Kompound ready to meet him and reflect on their heart transplants and the old days when they were controlled by the evil Zundapp empire.

Doc not real happy about you coming out of the closet all the time and giving me a touch up
:o Donny! you said you wouldn't tell!! :( :P
sorry mate, playin' on you choice of words ;D just to clear the air for anyone who may read into this the wrong way, I have NEVER been in a bloody closet!! :-* the dog house yes!!

-
great pics bullmad! ;D any chance of sending the originals to my email addy?? :)
The shoulder injury accident I witnessed at close quarters and I do believe it's not the first time the gents shoulder has popped out in spectacular fashion..:o I seem to recall something similar at Rocksberg a while back..could be a couple of years the time goes so quick..ses helicopter mercy flight??..maybe I'm wrong but a big ouch anyways!! :o
-
Rosco,
I think its more a case of the worried Maico rider looking to see how close he was to being beaten by an overweight trailbike, and that nightmare turned into reality in the next outing.!!!
