I don't mean to nit-pick, but did you get 2 RH radiator decals instead of 1 right and 1 left?
Your wings on back to front ??? ??? ??? ???

Hi Powerstand
Please can you tell me where you got your radiator shrouds ? Your bike looks real good.
Thanks

Hoony in reply to you question I decided to post some ride pictures and comments here. I have been out a number of times. Third ride after getting it going and being of bikes since 1991 was at Tumbulegum Natural Terrain Race day & did an open day at Nobel Falls MX track later on. I had a ball and rode like an old mole but that was the plan.
I think the mod’s I have done to the bike has turned it into more of an animal, I know that’s an 86 trait but don’t remember it being a savage. It has little to nil bottom end to mid, there’s no lag/ flat spot but just goes straight to mid-top end. BLAST. Straight into wheel spin and then the bike catches up. To get tractable power in a turn you need to knife edge the throttle along. Anyway, loving the impractical beast & here are some happy snaps.
Crabman, hadn’t seen your post, mate original shrouds, all the plastics are.

Maybe check the power valve. These things were a beast but not that bad. More just 2 much power everywere.

What mods have you done from standard?
my stock engine 85 is strong but i wouldn't say it has no low/mid?

I have aways wondered what these 500 be like to ride.

Hoony, I apologies for the delay, I had the flu and haven’t been near the computer.
I am keen for your thoughts, I picked up a second hand pipe that has no markings/ name plate. Recon it’s a DG. The pipe is overall fuller & maybe slightly longer than the standard one.
I cleaned up the ports by matching and providing smooth transitions. The barrel is a later model style & from factory, larger ports and the back transfer ports are position slightly towards the back than the 86.
I jetted high by 8 above standard, ( I think standard jet is 170 so its now at 178) when its not up at operating temp it’s has “twice” been a bit boggy in the mid/ top end so I intend to drop the needle down (currently mid clip position) but when hot, it goes mental.
Why I jetted high is because of the lager pipe and plenty of fuel to keep the engine cool. Obviously if it starts to splatter then lean back. Leaner normally makes them run snappier so no sure, how this relates to no / little, low-end power.
I have kept alloy clutch plates so rotating mass is light.
I had the bike since 86 and I remember it being more linier before I stopped racing it in 1991. Maybe 20 later on I have forgotten??? I hope to be going for ride with some work mates, one races vets on a CR450F and another that has CR480, CR500…1984, KX500… 1983, KX500…2000 so I hope to get some opinions from these dudes.

I have aways wondered what these 500 be like to ride.
Normally more linier with a strong pull /rush, V8 compared to turbo 4.
Not sure how they compare to late model bikes that rev double the RPM to a 500 two stroke. They tend to get ugly when the wheel bites drive & the front end pulls up no matter what you are doing, the engine does die off but just keeps getting ugly if not managed.
I don’t like handing out rides, every time I do they stack it, reason is,
1. most people think it can be tamed, ???
2. haven’t learned respect (it has a mind of its own) and; ::)
3. Get caught up in the rush only to realize the corner is here. :-\
