Can anyone tell me if these are the same units from one bike to the other?
-
all the forks on the yz125x yz250 yz400 are the same with the air canistors
-
The forks and shock would be the same from 125/175. 250/400 would have heavier springs/damping. I think the 250/400 forks are a bit different as well.
-
The things you learn!
YZ125X and YZ125C forks are identical.
But - despite what I thought - YZ250/400C forks are different (sorry Jim!). These seem to run the earlier style lower leg, with the much smaller axle clamp.
The upper tubes also have a different part number, although the difference isn't visible in the crappy PDFs.
All of the internals seem to be the same from 125 to 400 (based on a quick scan of the part numbers).

Part # = 509-23180-L1-00
Part Description = CHAMBER ASSEMBLY
Model Count = 4
YZ125X 1976 125 YZ125X Competition Motocross
YZ175C 1976 175 YZ175 Competition Motocross
YZ250C 1976 250 YZ250 Competition Motocross
YZ400C 1976 400 YZ400 Competition Motocross
the chambers are the same

I should have read that properly....old fool, old eyes and getting late, just as well we've got young Nathan on the job.....175....C v 125X. I should have had only 1 cup of cocoa ;D
-
thanks guys, so if I order a set of fork oil seals and dust covers to suit a 175X they should be 36mm and basically the same as the 125X ? I couldn't find any sets for 125C's ??
Cheers
-
All Balls do a tripple lip seal for these, awesome seals, you can order them through your bike shop or pm me.

Why are you looking at 125C bits?
125X and 175C forks are identical - they have the same part number, as shown in the parts diagrams
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx
...so individual components will also be identical.
-

bloody typo Nazi ;D
The earlier confusion in the thread, combined with be being on a roof today in 40 degree temps, have fried my brain. Yes, I'm after 125X seals and dust covers ::) so I'll order the 175C ones.
Thanks Davey, but unless they can do the full set for seals and covers for $30 Aus delivered......
Cheers for the help guys, you too Nathan ::)
-
one more thing....
Is the 125X shock the same as any other model, eg YZ250? it looks the same in the crappy PDF's mentioned earlier and the part numbers are similar.
1G8-22210 for the 125X
509-22210 for the 250C
Cheers
-
See if I can get this one right.....YZB, MXB, YZC all basically the same monoshock, there would be slight updates as they went to the next model. Now I'll wait for Nathan to shoot me down!!!! ;D
-
The 22210 part of the part number is just Yamaha's universal number for a rear shock. The prefix tells you what bike its for, the middle part tells you what it is, and the suffix(es) tell you colour/oversize/revision number. The exceptions are generic bits like bearings and seals and springs, which have their own numbering system.
So... those numbers tell you that the 250C and 125X have rear shocks ;D and that they're different to each other.
Whether the differences are big or small is the real question...
Oddly, the 125X/175C complete shocks have a different part number to the complete 250/400C shock, but every individual part appears to be the same?!
Definitely the big/obvious stuff like spring, body, shaft and valve assembly are the same, so I can only assume that they're the same shock.
Edit for Mr Crocket: Nope, that's my understanding too.

I just scored a NOS set off ebay, cost me $$$ but im looking to get a few sets reproduced through fernando the husky parts/reproduction rubbers guy as i have a few X's need more than one set. If you were interested?
Also if you could let me know how you go with the h/d spring that'd be good!!
-
HD spring from YSS was about $200+postage.
My bike now has too little rebound dampening though... I'm looking at fitting a late model valve piston to it, but its going to be a turd of a job thanks to the big fat shaft of the early monoshock.
-
I was watching a YZ250C shock on ebay and had the seller measure the length from the end of the thread to the pivot point, and it's the same as my 125C, about 620mm :-\
Is the 125X shock actually any longer? has anyone got one out of a bike they could measure?
Cheers
-
Measured a 250c shock last night....640mm....125C shock 620mm.....YZ250B shock 620mm.
-
Measured a 250c shock last night....640mm
was that the MX250 shock you mentioned earlier?
-
620mm
-
so the MX250 shock is 620mm long, and you have a yz250c shock that measures 640mm.
So despite the individual part numbers for the major shock components being the same on the Yamaha parts list, the shocks are actually different lengths?
All I need now is someone to measure an actual 125X shock.
-
My 125X shock was longer than my 125C shocks. Didn't look modified or anything.
Its in the bike ATM, so I can't measure it.
-
Is there any chance you could pop the tank and seat off and measure it?
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? :-*
-
Jim's saving me the drama - his is apart and he's offered to measure it once he's sure what measurement you want.
Just to make sure: ITs the pivot on the top of the swing arm to the very end of the shock, up under the thank?

Rear shock parts:
MX250B, MX400B, YZ250B, YZ360B, YZ125C
- 509-22481-01-00 ROD, PISTON
- 483-22411-01-00 HOUSING, MEMBRANE
- 483-22412-00-00 CAP, HOUSING
YZ125X, YZ175C, YZ250C, YZ400C, IT400C
- 509-22481-02-00 ROD, PISTON
- 509-22411-01-00 HOUSING, MEMBRANE
- 509-22412-00-00 CAP, HOUSING
-
I measured an IT400C shock, and I got 635mm from end of threaded section (end of shaft) to centre of hole through the membrane housing... Maybe I'm measuring to a slightly different point? (not 640mm)

Will post a Photo later, but the shock bodies are the same length, but the shaft is approx 20mm shorter..
-
White Brothers did an 8.5" travel kit for all 75-76 Yamaha monoshocks. Not sure if that helps you or not.
-
looks like that's the answer tony, thanks for that. So I basically need any YZ or IT400 C model shock (except the 125)
Cheers mate

Rear shock parts:
MX250B, MX400B, YZ250B, YZ360B, YZ125C
01-00 ROD, PISTON[/li]
YZ125X, YZ175C, YZ250C, YZ400C, IT400C
02-00 ROD, PISTON [/li]
that tells there is a variaion in the part - in the 01 and then the 02 version, there is a differance, be it colour or lenght it denotes a yamaha modification of some kind
