It's something I've tried to block out for some time now. I've thought "let it go, you'll get over it" but now it's become a real obsession.
I (er) got this (um) really uncontrolable urge to (ummmm)........
get a trials bike.
Yes that's right. A trials bike.
I've never even ridden one but I keep seeing all these really neat looking Cota twinshocks on eBay going for next to nothing and I get all nostalgic thinking of myself popping a 'wheelie' over some little rock wearing one of those little caps like all those guys used to wear back in the 70's or.....
Getting one of those wiz-bang new age trials things that look like they're off on a moon mission and I imagine myself as one of those guys in the trials videos riding over trains with my hat on sideways and my pants on backwards looking really cool with some doof-doof music playing in the background.
So I really don't know what to go for. 1980's Cota (Country Gent :)) or 2004 Dougie Lampkin replica (Yo! Skin my hand Mudda-(censored) 8))
It can be our little secret..... :-X

Nimmo,
now go and have a nice relaxing bath and a cuppa tea and then GET OVER IT. ???
-
I'm sorry. It's like women with big tits. I can't stop thinkin' about it....... :P
-
You should know if it`s got tits or trials tyres it will give you trouble.
-
If you want to hone the skills, the Trials bike is a step in the right direction.
Look at the riders that have crossed over, Meeriman, Jarvis, Blazusiak, the things they can do on a MX or Enduro bike is incredible. The other magic thing about a trails bike is they don't wear out. They may get knocked around a bit, but you won't be doing engine freshen up's every season or replacing tyres after every 2nd race.
-
i think you need a cold shower ::) ;D
-
Go for the old 1, this is a vmx site after all.
Why would you want valves, fuel pump & a loud exhaust? But then I'm a biased 2stroke rider ;D
-
Oh it'd be a two banger. No worries about that. And as Rod pointed out it's not like you have to spend a lot on them.
I think after carefull consideration, I should get both. :P
There's a skate park across the road from me and I can't help thinking what havoc I could create over there (apart from falling flat on my face! :D)

Here's all you need, cheap too...

Would you ride it? What about those large boulders and trees that come at you? They could hurt you!

I forgot a,. KERO bath will fix you YOU SHOULD FEEL DIRTY, move over 8)

i had a 200 cota ,twin shock, the gears jumped out , normally halfway up a steep bank , the kick start gear normally lets go , shaft snaps ,wasn,t very powerful , lots less than a ty175 , i think they are 170cc , handle ok though , would be good with the big engine (348)
-
Go for it! I rode comp trials before I started VMX and was pretty pleased at how 'fit' I was for mx-trials is not a sport for lazy types despite how it looks to anyone not riding. The 247 Cota is a great choice and handled streets ahead of a KT I had as well. Any of the moderns will probably be better than you at this stage in life and something like the 315 Monty is a good ride.
It also gave me a handy excuse for my lamantable lack of speed when I ride mx....too much time trying to ride slow destroyed my high speed skills - not! :(
-
Someone needs to tell Merriman,Knight,Taddy,Birch etc that 1. They need any excuse they can get to slow down ;D
-
Ross,
The Cota 200 was a great bike much better than the 172. There is a problem with that series of engines in the kick start mechanism which became worse as the engines got bigger. The kick start idler gear moves on the shaft resulting in a stripped gear and they are made out of albino rocking horse crap!!! :o :'(. The problem persisted into the Cota 242 series and was partly cured with redesigned parts for the series 2 - 242's. Unfortunately you can not just replace one part. AQ guy in the UK has made a run of new gears 195 pound :'( ???
The engines in the Cota123-172-200 are very much the same as the VA-VB125 series in most details including the unusual racket gear change which is a nightmare to set up.
My choice would be Cota242 (best of the Cota's), 348, 349 and then the 200. The 172/123 are not really in the race. The 349/348 would suit a VF414, YZ465 type of guy. The engine will literally pull a stump out of the ground at idle. Basically you can not stop the engine lack of traction or going over vertical are the only things that will stop forward motion.
You could always get a late TY250 after all you have already sold your sole on the MX track ;D :D

If riding trials makes you feel dirty, you are doing it wrong. Remember TRIALS IS THE CLEAN SPORT!!

-
are you not supposed to do lawn bowls then when that hard take up trials?
-
tell that to 2 of the oldest trials down here on the South Coast. They are still winning, let alone riding..and both are over 75! Top blokes...
-
I have just bought a Honda TLR 250, CAN`T wait to get it.
-
finely the TLR 250 has arrived, checked it over, found that the Fuel side is rusty, l will need to get some of that treatment that you buy, l have forgotten what it is call.
