To hot to work in the shef today so I'm bored ;D
Just interested in evryone's opinion,
if you were going to buy 5 CR250's from the watercooled era, which models would you buy / which years were the most significant?
1981, 1989, 1997 would probaly be a good start....but which others

93 mcgrath replica ;D

I would think the '84 and '89 models would be the most collecable at the moment. The only people interested in paying good money for old dirt bikes are VMX racers and the latest models in their respective classes are the most desired.
The '97 model, first of the alloy frames, has a bad reputation and it'll be a long time before it becomes desirable.

Thats good news for me John as I have a few of that models.
Like the 84, 87 is a good looker as well with the original gold rims, 89 is a great bike to ride. From then on all look the same. I had a ride recently on an 07 and loved the low end power it had. that's 4 from 5 at least for me.
Goes without saying any of the early 80's works bikes that were so cool.

Good call Caps thats one I hadn't thought of, definitely one of my favorite looking bikes!

for me its
CR250RE 1984
CR250RG 1986
-
CR250RB 81, first of the water cooled 250s with single shock. Original 'Close Encounters" front number plates make it even more desirable and are selling for big $$$ these days/

They're not going for much here in Oz.. I don't think people see the collectable value in them yet.
They weren't a real good bike but they do have that 'works' bike look about them.
I have an '81 CR450 and i'm hoping one day it'll be worth a bit being Honda's first big bore production MX bike. (also had one brand new)

81 and 82 are the least desirable. 83's onwards are all good in my book. At least up till the last red ones. They lost me when they went white/pink and white/black (looks wise).
-
'83 and '87 for me.
-
83 - got one for a good price - wasn't really chasing one - but bloody hell it's good!

none of the above :o
only joking ::) 1984 1989 2008

I think that may have something to do with VMX rules and that bikes closest to pre 85 get the most dollars. I have my eye on CR450RB at the moment, another flawed bike that has a strong following.
