Title: AGE-LESS
Post by: colmoody on February 06, 2010, 08:02:19 pm
Would love to know the average age of regular and not so regular contibutors on this forum. Not sure if the majority would be into the concept or how it could be done but would certainly fill in a few gaps.

That and a few other basic stats could also be a big help in selling advertising space or maybe convincing those that might be considering booking and paying for some advertising space on OZVMX that it is indeed a good idea.

Well, there's no selling advertising space on OzVMX. Tried it a few years back but very few saw it as something that they wanted to do. To be successful, I'd need to make it a full time job and be out there chasing down advertisers and improving the site. These days, I really just let OzVMX meander along its course.

As for me, 51 and a public servant.

Of the 56 that have fessed up so far and not including the two or three that commented but could'nt quite bring themselves to say it, from my calculations average age of regular contributors to this forum or at least those that did respond (56) is approx 47.5yrs. Which equates to an average birth date of May 1962

Apart from being about ten years older than I thought it would be not sure what it all means.

And if it had'nt been for the two babes amongst us (Nathan and Frosty) the average would have been a far more respectable 48.35yrs

It doesn't really matter what the average age is there are always going to be people alot higher or a lot lower in age I wonder if we tried it again in a years time I am assuming it would go up and then you could have a guess at what it might be in 5 years time thanks Michael. :)

Of course Frosty you are 100% correct. It was'nt untill I submitted my last post on this subject that I saw how many had viewed this topic (approx 1600). That only 56 of that 1600 or about 3% played the game is piss poor weak. Did'nt think I was asking anyone for there bank account details but there you go.

If you could get some more numbers it would be interesting as I think next year it will go up it all depends on are more younger or older guys getting into vmx so it would interesting to see how far if at all that figure changes.

I think you will find that the 1600 or now 1700 lookers are the same guys coming back for a look several times to see what others have written.

Generally I would say their is about a hundred lookers at every thread, which rises after someone has replied.

SI  I said it didn't I? No you're right, I have to come out and say it properly.
I'M 51- there I said it though I don't beleive it as I'm still 20 in a 50+ chassis. Should have a pre '60 class but not sure if I'm a 2stroke or 4 yet. I like a lot of premix (scotch & ice) but can run on straight (beer).
Married for years to the same great model and 2 kids that should leave home soon (we hope.any suggestions)
Owner/manager of exhaust, mechanical, brakes, suspension shop.
Raced solos in the 70s long enough to work out I was too slow then turned to " sidecar passenger " what ever that is. Just the shit on the side according to Wally.
Speaking of which- Wheres Wally???

54/ married/ 1 no longer riding son (22) /I sell boat stuff.

When my son stopped racing at 18 I thought my life was over. I told my misses that he quit...I didn't. I will be racing as long as I can throw my leg over the seat without any help and can see where I'm going. Even then I might make up a rig of some kind to get on the bike and by that time there will be goggles that will take over for the bad eyesight!

1963 Vintage. Just clicked over 25 years of marriage, and strangely to the same woman. 3 girls 22, 21 & 19 all doing well and not giving me any problems. Work for a Japanese car company as a Snr Manager in the After Sales / Engineering area. Spend most Saturdays working at a bike shop that is run by my mate, although work is not quiet correct as all we do is we take the piss out of each other and anyone who gets caught in the middle.

I am quite surprised how many of us are 50+/- and only a few are much older or much younger. I know my club (BMCC) has only 1 or 2 pups but a few older guys(60-70+)
I guess that's where we come from and why we're here. The mid to late seventies and most of the eighties where the glory years of our sport and that;s where we cut our teeth.
Perhaps we could have put in a combined household income guide to balance it all out but then where one gets his dough and what he does with it will always be a wild variant.
The other thing is the number of 'better' racers that are still about where as the also rans have moved on to some other past time.

That must be what it is-when the HELMET goes on the years fall away-or the track falls away-or the bikes falls away (from under me) or all of the above.
Now I have a new excuse. You beauty!!

Of the 56 that have fessed up so far and not including the two or three that commented but could'nt quite bring themselves to say it, from my calculations average age of regular contributors to this forum or at least those that did respond (56) is approx 47.5yrs. Which equates to an average birth date of May 1962

Just worked it out after all these years.... my birthday May 1962..... Average, average, average, two kids.....average, average, average.... still riding dirt bikes at my age.... not average, shit I luv that!! ???

72 married since 72 second oldest rider in city of penrith mcc. Xt 500 in elstar frame, Rt1 [pre 70] haven't even washed it since it siezed half way through the 25 lapper at nepean  two - day in '08. Two sons, 37yr old races mountain bike [NO ENGINE!] and a 34 yr old petrol head with no cash and lots of kids. he's also a 3rd generation auto mechanic but recently discovered it's the worlds worst paid job now earns twice the rate with a few weeks training....wish i did that years ago!..My old man raced cars early 50s,my brother raced cars quite succesfully, his son prepares cars for drift racing and makes turbo kits as well as drifting. my 34 yr old has had a few rides on the Rt1 which he does alright but he had one ride on my slider and exclaimed "stuff that thing". I was redunded from the water board after 26 years and blew all my super on a servo thanks to coles/shell. had a Harley fall on me at about 4yrs old and fell of a C11 in the back yard at villawood at 16, i guess that's what started all this for me!    cheers wally.
