Hi all....seems once workmates find out you have RMs in your stable, they think they have an avenue to offload their junk.
Well for $50.00 this RM125B won't hurt the bank balance, this is coming monday.
It is a runner...well it was 2 years ago ::)
Can any kind soul ID these rear shocks?
And to think i HATED Suzuki and RM's in my youth....it comes back to bite you oneday hey!
cheers....mario

can you get a closer photo? they look like Konis although they were usually red bodies. if they are koni they will have Koni 23X stamped under the top eyelet above the preload grooves. Just taking a closer look at them now, im fairly confident they are Konis. They will also have shaft of an odd size around 10.70-10.75, screw in seal head, 4mm allen gas bolt direct in the reservoir and the hose crimped to the res cap and shock body. The reservoir cap comes out from the reservoir attached to the hose.
-
Yep, they look like a seriously faded set of Koni's.
-
ohlins ::)
-
They look like Konis to me too.
-
Definitely not Ohlins because the hose comes out on an angle on ohlins and they don’t have a recessed reservoir cap where the hose attaches to. i got 2 sets and they look exactly like the ones in photo but they were not originally yellow. one set was chevy orange and the later set were a a slightly more red colour.
-
I thought Konis because of the circlip grooves at the top to adjust spring preload.
I suppose they could have been painted. ???
-
even mine were painted yellow and black by someone who thought that would look better on a suzuki than red shocks but underneath i found the original red. I just had a thought, i have a picture of these konis in black and white in a shock buyers guide from 1980 but its obvious due to the shades of white/grey they are not red in that pic and i always thought the light colour was yellow, so yeah this could be original Koni yellow, but they did also have red/orange because i have a colour brochure showing red ones too.

I had those exact Konis on my Maico Magnum 400. Nothing like Ohlins in performance or looks.

Mario, good pick up..I'd guess the front end complete with the plastic preston petty headlight mounts (which I'd gladly take IF you were going to bin them ;)) anyway the front end is PE175/250 C/N, fuel tank is 125N/T obviously and the rest more than likely 125B. Looks like the sprocket cover was removed only recently but a pair of cases with all the mounts intact are far more rare than the actual cover ;)
-
Looks like a bit of chain is forming on that rust :o
-
Thanks everyone.....Koni's seem to be the go and i'll know 100% on monday.
Owner sent me photos of the eng # .....RM125 47773.....B model by my readings
Front hub/wheel looks like its full size (zoomed in) ....could be PE250B?
Doc, if the P/P mounts don't explode on removal,i'll send them your way.....thats if they aren't holding the bike together.
That is genuine Wonthaggi rust on the bike ;D
-
Cheers! ;D the PP mounts 'shouldn't' break Mario as the plastic they used is one of the old type that takes 1000's of years before it even looks like remotely beginning to break down and stop giving off toxic fumes ;) wish they had of used the same plastic for the fuel tank, covers and guards. If the lead didn't get us, the old plastics and paints should ::)..apparently :-X

AND the winner is.....LWC82PE....Koni 23X-1087
Rolled the RM (well dragged) off the trailer this morning....i think the neighbours are getting tired of me rolling bikes off at 1AM after work...so i waited this morning.
This thing is a beast....nice tight bike.....as in everything is rusted tight ;D Can't even pull in the brake and clutch levers.....lol
I should be able to make $600 alone on those Preston Petty brackets.....rare as I've been told, especially being intact ;) (i can hear Doc telling me to go f-myself)....you were right Doc,good plastic in those days.
PM your address and I'll try and send them up later in the week.
Too many b'day visits and been coaxed into going up to the Southern 80 in Echuca, something about speedboats ....i know they float, thats all i know about boats.
Oh well time to "drag" it to the back of the shed,i'll have a look at it next week.
Back to project RM175F
Cheers....Mario
Just checked frame number..RM125-41860 I figure an RM125A frame with a 47773 "B" engine.
-
Ok then 23X-1087 is the exact part number for 78 RM250/400 C 78. I have got the exact same shocks. Spec sheet says 400mm long & 134mm stroke.
-
Thanks Leith when i get the time i will see if there is a base colour under that yellow.
RM250/400C....good to know.
This thing reads like a rolling alphabet bike....
PE175/250C,N front end,
RM125A frame,
RM125B engine,
RM250/400C koni shocks,
RM125N,T tank
Appreciate all the help fella's ;)
