Title: Brake relining

Is there a preferred brake lining material to use on brake shoe relines.

Local brake/clutch shop relined my Husky front brake with "soft" linings they said would work well............

The linings did not work and are showing dark flaky areas after one race.

Expat, you have to pull the lever to get the brakes to work, and that grassy corner after the jump required alot of slowing down........ ;D........ I did the same as you. ;D

DJ, really pleased to know you went farming at the bottom of the hill :)...makes me feel way better....but you would have had to do so 4 times to have done same as me  ??? ;D

Still no word on suitable brake linings - I'm all ears as Maico brakes are not exactly world class as standard even with all the usual tricks!

My Maico stops on a dime. Got the linings from Les, terry cable and a lever assy that has different leverage ratios. Its from MCS (wholesaler) and i think its Y16L or something close to that. It is made for a clutch but i use it on the brake any way. I also have one on the clutch and it feels like a modern instead of a two hander.

isn't there an article in one of the VMX mags about how to get maico's to brako ??

as for clutch & brake levers  - I agree with agent 90 - good quality lever assemblies with good leverage ratios & new cables - LUBED regularly makes the world of difference - personally I only use genuine kawasaki kx250 clutch lever assemblies & all my clutches have been very smooth & lite

Dave Mac, the key is to have your hubs trued. This is best done disassembled, but some can put your assmebled wheel on a mill-and machine absolutley round.
Then, use the stock factory shoes, have them trued as well if possible. Periodically, remove the wheel, sand the high spots with #180 grit paper.After once or twice, you will have a one finger stopper.

BTW I found only the Magura perch and lever pulled enough cable to operate the Maico clutch. I use the Terrycables, but will try the Venhill cables( from Canadian Maico) next time.

For your Husky, find a CZ guy who has had shoes relined. If you can send to US try Matt Hillenberg at Speed& Sport. A friend had his CZ shoes re lined by them and they work great.
