Title: Big Fuel tanks
Post by: TT on January 31, 2010, 06:19:05 pm
You've got to admire the ingenuity of some blokes when building bikes for the Dakar.
Check these out for fuel tanks.  :o

Under this one is a KTM495.

And this is my personal favourite on a Can-Am.

The KTM does look well done, but what sort of psycho would want to ride a KTM495 all day, every day for 2 weeks.  ::)

That's a point.  :-\

I find it a really cool site. Lots of very 'interesting' choices for bikes to ride in the Dakar.  :D

There was a guy who rode a PE250 in 81 but a few of us looked and we cant find any photos of the rider & bike.

That guy on the KTM wouldn't want to put a foot down somewhere, he looks like he'd need a step ladder to climb on board. Although the bike in the pic is on the centre stand, unless the suspension sags heaps, his feet would have to be 6" off the ground when seated.

Same here, Leith. I can't find any pics of the PE.

As for the seat height of the KTM, most were the same.
Ever see Gaston Rahier start off on a BMW or DR-Z750? He stands on the LHS of the bike with only his left foot on the left peg, lets the clutch out and climbs aboard.  :D

But then he was only 4 foot something...............

Yeah, but looking like that standing next to a TC90 doesn't count.  :D

Sorry mate!  ;)
