Title: KX250/500
Post by: YUMASTEPSIDE on January 26, 2010, 05:43:44 pm
Just had a bloke ring me to fix his "KX500",supposedly its a 500 top end on an early '80s 250 bottom end in a 250 frame.
He'll bring it out to me next week. Is this configuration possible? I didn't think a 500 barrel would fit on a 250 case?   ??? ??? ???

"LX250" sounds like the KLX engine No!!

I had a KX 420 back in the day that I restamped* with my KLX engine No. so I could ride enduro's on it.
Pretty sure I restamped it back with the original 420 No. before I sold it though.

I remember going through scrutineering at the Wonthaggi 6 hour in I think 82.
They were trying to crack down on dodgy rego's that people were trying on to get MX bikes into the event. The scrutineer looked at me wheeling in the 420 and started smirking, "has this got real rego" he asked. Sure I said. He asked for the rego papers and started checking the engine No. LX250#####
Oh. This ones fair dinkum he said surprised.
I was surprised he didn't pick up the it was LX250### instead of something like KX420###

* Can you be held acountable for such things now that more than 7 years has passed ::)
Anyway, Vicroads shouldn't beleive anything they might read on the net. ;D

Sounds like you need to take some chill pills Paul, just because you read it on the Net doesn't mean it's true ::)

And yes, I have stamped 84 frames in my "bush hideout". Not to mention around a dozen trailers.

I don't think that the second part of Paul's post was meant to be taken seriously...

Note to Self, be aware when GMC requests CR500 to Jig a Pipe from  ;)

1. write down engine # before arrival at Rebirthing clinic and Bush hideaway
2. fit engine hidden hour meter under tank
3. check same number exists a few weeks later and read engine hour meter
