Title: Your bike at the Nationals
Post by: 211kawasaki on January 25, 2010, 05:26:56 pm
Just wanted to note for the sake of making the event a tad easier for one and all.

These were the things I saw at last years machinery believe it or not.

Handlebars not plugged
steering heads loose - really loose!
no AS standard marks on helmets and some pretty bad helmets
no ID numbers eg. Z for pre 78
loose spokes - lots of them
wrong bike entered in wrong class (check your bike is eligible for the class you enter)
no front fenders
no muffler

there is plenty of time to get it right between now and the championships.

Hey. Let's get another one of those "What should I do for The Nats" threads happening again. The last one was grouse...... :D

Going on that list above, and my own observations, not too many read that thread last year!

Can't remember a whole lot myself. Something about footpeg return springs.
I think...... :'(

Just a quick note to everyone; you don't necessarily need an AS1698 standard helmet.  SNELL, DOT, BSI are all acceptable under FIM (MA) rules.  All the details are in the MA rulebook.

just wait until you here my Dot, she sound like a true scrambler from the 60`s
If it does sound like a "true scrambler of the 60's" it won't be racing Dave.

Walter is correct, note the GCRs no muffler no ride but in saying that when I did put one on my AJS a flat spot that I had been trying to tune out of the bike for years went away as well so there are some positives.

Will the Scrutineers actually know what helmet standards are aceptable this year  ::)

I keep the rulebook in my gearbag as I source my helmets from OS.  I've had the odd drama with it.  Some people can't understand we're governed by an international competition body, not the local RTA.   ;D

Yeah but we must crash harder and faster the os so we need better helmets.

On the helmet issue, its more that there are ones that are presented at machinery that are in poor condition or the approval mark is either not there or very difficult to find. The point isnt to get into a long winded discussion on what you can / cant do but to point out that there have been helmets rejected (last nats) and a suggestion made that for some it may be worth upgrading to a new one.

As long as your helmet is in good condition and has clearly identifiable marks acceptable to the GCR's you will be OK but if you front up with a 70's period plastic unit that looks like it was last used by a patch wearing bikie in a remake of Easy Rider then forget it.

And yes, one did turn up at last years Nats.

with helmets it is also interesting to note (so I have been informed after one of our meetings) that the old AS/NZ "sticker" as we previously know it has been sold and that we had some helmets come through that had a "moulded" design that looked very Chinese but in fact was approved.  It seriously looked doubtful but in fact was compliant?

DT...just on your note about the standards of bikes spresented to scruit.....apart from bolts missing in sprockets and the like...I can't see anywhere in the MOMS that you have to have a front mudguard(fenders are for boats)..certainly mentions a rear guard / seat combo..but nothing about a front guard..can you point me in the right direction..??

Whacko Brian!!!....Let's all take our front mudguards off now that you've found another loophole in the book. Hallelujah Glory Be...We're all saved from the evil mudguard fetish that's kept our sport in the dark ages for decades.  What a forking visionary and wise old owl you are Brian. Just like leaving half of the sprocket bolts out because some herring muncher in Sweden did it back in the seventies.

For fluck sake why do you blokes keep digging up this shit. No wonder people shake their heads in disbelief and walk away.

Fuggin' grouse! As soon as they do away with the 'can't look a knob rule' I'm rippin' the peak off my helmet and I'm out there..... :P

I think I agree with you Dot - providing you meet the noise limit and any conditions in the supp regs (anything like 'All machines must be fitted with an effective silencer'), then its great that you're keen on keeping the bike authentic.

This DOT must be something special - it must be about the longest you've held onto a bike?

My response??? You're kidding, right? Why post such a stupid post in the first place? We've been through all of the bullshit prior to last years Nats  so why start it all up again? You've been around this sport for a long, long time Brian and should know better than that. You're just shit stirring for the sake of shit stirring. If you took the time to sort out your own bikesand those of some of your fellow travellers scrutineering shortcomings instead of searching the MoMs for loopholes and misprints the world would be a sweeter place.

See what you've done Brian? I've broken my new years resolution of not getting involved in the politics and bullshit any more. This is just the type of thing that has detuned me to the point that the racing side of our sport has no meaning to me any more. . :(

Just as a side i run Front guards on all my MX bikes, cause i dont like mud in my teeth for a start.

But there isnt a reason nor place for them on the Flat track bikes, and if some one goes an put it in the moms, for some god awlful reason some idiot will insist on it, just cause its inthe moms.

I think its just oneof them things, leave it alone and let the rider decide, or you split the moms up so the Dt bikes dont keep getting hit with the Classic MX rules.  aka foot pegs etc just to name a few.

IM sure you'll agree firko, there is no reason why your benelli should have to run a Front guard, nor stop you if you want to run a swinging peg.

Rules i think some peeps take them all to seriously. Cant we just ride ?

If that's "on your back" then you're clearly due for a change of scene.

The fact that you typed out a perfectly reasoanble response, then added to it hours later, and then another few hours later you wiped the lot and changed it to a snarky response, also suggests that you're overdue for a change of scene.

Cheers and looking forward to it with bells on.

Three days of sitting around waiting to do a dash-for-cash each day (and paying $200.00 for the privelage)? No thanks! The VIPER meeting two weeks earlier will be a heap more fun. Plus someone will protest over someone else's rubber bar mounts or some other such thing.  ::)

Johnny O might be on to something with his post about the only thing wrong with VMX is all the bullshit posted on this site. As an aside I would also include as bullshit anyone whom uses those lame twee yellow face's as an excuse for a post.

A sportsbar too eh Walter, how up with the times are they!! have one from the man, behind the man, at the bar for me, haven't spoken with Johnny for about 10 years now ;) I've a big bro living in Cannington and for the record Alison, he reckons it's a good place too. I guess I should be able to trust my bro but I'm not so sure the heat hasn't affected his judgement ;D
